Sardaukar's 7th AAR (with some strategy tips and tricks)

Post by Sardaukar »

I'll start 7th public Grand Campaign as Allies vs. evil empire's Artificial Idiot soon.

I'll try to give some things about Allied strategy plus some tips and tricks.

This time it'll be Modified Scenario 26 (DaLiteBabes A) with explicit aim to break AI as soon as possible. Defence of Burma and Fortress Java strategy.

I will modify few things:

First day is 1-day turn, after that, 2-day turns.

E-ships (IJN Escort): Reduced number of DC throwers

Type 2 DC: accuracy reduced from 7 -> 6

Argonaut: made minelayer sub for whole war, switching to more lethal Mk 12 later

Allied mines: Removed end dates of mine production, to give limited mine capability to Dutch minelayer subs etc. (O19, 20 mainly) even later. Added some more mines, mine warfare is too anemic.

House rules:

- no 4E naval attacks below 6000 ft before May 1942.
- no 2E naval attacks below 1000 ft (100 ft skip bombing) before Jan 1943
- fighter bombers and attack bombers, no altitude restrictions on naval attack.

I'll add navigation radars for bombers (when applicable) even though they don't work (just just in case). Also Cameras added to later heavy bombers.

- no high altitude sweeps. Fighters are restricted to best (or second best if there is small difference) MVR altitude band(s)

- submarines have to return to base when combined sys, flt, eng damage is =>10

- adjustments to some orders for first day

GENERAL (AND ADMIRAL) TIPS:

- In China, try not to change Target of land units. You want unit to reach 100 level and then they start to train up to national nominal experience. Chinese (and Burmese and some others) have incredibly low EXP and Morale level. Both are important, but remember that low morale is directly related how easy the unit is to be destroyed in combat. You can also use Rest/Training with units out of combat to remedy that a bit.

- Don't put ultra aggressive (80+) commanders on low-exp submarines even when they are your best. They tend to get the sub and themselves killed quickly. Save those for 60+ exp subs. 60s Aggressiveness is fine, 70s is already bit so so. Sometimes you don't have much choice, but remember that this is a long war and COs come and go.

- Use layered CAP against Zero sweeps. Layered cap is e.g. having 2 fighter units (like P-40Es) in same base and setting one at 15k altitude, another at 10k. This will often cause enemy "bounce" to hit lower planes, and then your higher CAP can bounce enemy back. Might want to experiment with best altitudes. It tends to even the losses, since in early war, Japan has both experience and altitude advantage. Note that faster you kill the Japanese pilots, worse they become. (AI will never run out of planes though, but their pilot quality will suffer).

- it's fine to use "Naval CAP Trap" against long-range IJN torpedo bombers. They often outrange Zero escorts and thus fly unescorted. In base, put some xAKL, HDML, ML, AMc, etc. to Task Force and undock them as bait. Then your CAP at that base will often have field day against unescorted Betties/Nells.

(to be continued)

Sardaukar: I'll add navigation radars for bombers (when applicable) even though they don't work (bust just in case).
First question - whose bust (breasts) are you going to use for navigation?

AS CAVEAT, COMBAT REPORTS ARE (AS USUAL) REDUCTED, IHMO IRRELEVANT/USELESS PARTS ARE REMOVED. USUALLY ONLY ENCOUNTERS THAT CAUSE CASUALTIES/LOSSES OR ARE OTHERWISE IMPORTANT ARE INCLUDED. THERE IS LOT MORE HAPPENING THAN SHOWN. - SUPREME ALLIED COMMANDER, PACIFIC AND SOUTHEAST ASIA (SACPAS)
