Anyone ever play PTO for Sega Genesis?

I really liked PTO for my Sega Genesis back in the day. I am wondering if there is a recent (past few years) PC game that could be compared to it. Something that has a good mix of stategic command, resource management and tactical battle scenes (like panzer general) with a pacific WWII theme. I would also like to be able to build and repair my own ships. I understand that 'War in the Pacific' and 'Uncommon Valor' are well more detailed than something I want to play. Any suggestions?

PS: I am a big fan of Panzer general 2.

If you liked PTO, you probably would like PTO2 which you can download for free at the underdogs.
