Firefighting

If you are trying to put out a fire on your ship, does it make any difference how fast you are going and whether you are going upwind or down?

Dramatically reducing speed does seem to help significantly with firefighting in my experience. The best thing to do seems to be to get fully out of combat, and slow down to 10 knots or less. Not sure if wind direction has an impact.

Ten knots is the rule for combatting flooding, I know. Generally I try to have damaged ships slow down.

Here are some factors that affect firefighting:

- Class of ship - Bs, early CA's, and carriers generally have a harder time putting out fires
- Crew quality
- Level of damage control tech
- Higher superstructure damage means the ship will have a harder time putting out fires
- Lowering speed down to 10 knots should help put out fires
- Heavy winds will make it harder to put out fire

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Maxim, all that makes sense, more or less what I was doing. The angle of the wind to the vessel's course makes no difference?

I echo doc's question about the angle of the wind.
