I want to play the game with a friend using email but can't figure out how. The manual is not very helpful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just to add to what is on page 23 of the Manual, in the PBEM lobby, you can issue challenges, set with a password that you can provide your friend so that only they can accept the challenge.

Here's a step by step guide:

- In the PBEM++ lobby, click on Host a challenge
- Select the campaign on the left hand side
- Click on Select campaign
- Adjust the options as desired and choose a password (if no password then anybody can join)
- Your game now appears in MY CHALLENGES in the lobby and will be visible to other players
- Communicate the password, if any, to your opponent

Your opponent can then:

- In the PBEM++ lobby, select the game in OPEN CHALLENGES
- Click on Join
- Insert the password you have given them
- Select options as desired
- Confirm

Is this when trying to enter the PBEM lobby, or when setting up the challenge?

The one to enter the PBEM lobby needs to be the user name and password for your account with Matrix Games.
