Installing second WITE2

Is there a way to install a second version of WITE2 on the same computer so I could have one version I'm playing and another version either with game changes or to be used for the original source files?

I'm pretty sure some testers have done this, but I'm not sure how. Hopefully one of them will let you know how it's done.

You should be able to do this creating a new folder an copy/pasting the content of the original in this new folder.

Example.

You have installed the game in this folder

C:\Matrix Games\Gary Grigsby's War in the East 2

Create a new folder for the copy:

C:\Games\Gary Grigsby's War in the East 2 (Copy)

This new folder is in the Games folder and added to the name the copy part to remember this is not the original one and you may delete it manually without problems.

Because if you delete the original manually, you will have to solve registry issues. The original you will have to uninstall through Windows like any other software.

I have this - and another query - set to notify me when a reply was posted but I got no email. I did have a data drive crash and have new drives but I don't see how that could stop me from getting email notifications.

Any ideas what I might need to do?

Easiest way is to get a STEAM key that way you can have a STEAM version and a Matrix version.

I have both on my computer. I have plain Jane STEAM instal for MP games and keep the modded Matrix instal for SP games.

Just to confirm before I actually do this. This IS installing from the original game CD and them updating from a patch file.

Ok I keep getting confused.

I was just going to do another complete install from scratch into a new directory structure. That won't work?

I do not know, never tried that.

But it is not needed anyway, just copy and paste the complete folder of the game to a new location, it is simpler and works, I have done it several times.

So:

1. Copy files in Gary Grigsby's War in the East 2\... to WITE2\...

2. Patch the Gary Grigsby's War in the East 2 to the newer version

Also question for you since you have more experience with this. I'm currently running version 1.01.07beta and I have modified the generic data files. If I just patch to the newest patch will new generic data files be put there so I can check out the new version with all fresh files or will I need to uninstall, reinstall from the CD version and then patch to the most recent?

Currently I have v.1.01.07beta installed.

I would like to install the newest version (v1.04.01) so I can compare the two and see if I want to move to that version. I have reasons for being on such an old version but this new version seems to have game options which cover what I tried to jerry-rig with things so I would like to compare the two side-by-side.

If I move up I still want the old version up so I can compare things when I edit a scenario in the new version.
