[1463] GUI freezes always or breaks sometimes consistently shortly into scenario zooming with TopoMap

Post by stonie »

Decided to give 1463 BETA a try (STEAM version). I opened god of war scenario in the chains of war which is a fairly big scenario.

Four times in a row. Only with TopoMap enabled so far.

1) As i inspect airfields and consider my plans, as i zoom around with the TopoMap enabled and look at airfields, within 5 minutes there is a freeze of the whole application for about a minute. Two times out of 4 the game had problems afterwards that only a restart of the application could solve.

2) After the freeze stopped, opening airfields to inspect airplane content nothing comes up for a little bit, its like it could not fetch the information (this happened once).

3) Then shortly after the right side vertical unit information tab goes completely black and doesnt recover. See example here. This may be a bug independent of the TopoMap issue as it also happened after i had turned the TopoMap off. But it hasnt happened again as long as i dont turn on TopoMap at all after starting the application.

This hasnt happened to me before. The way it seems to develop is that at first everything is relatively snappy, the map Topo map loads every zoom. As i zoom and pan it eventually starts to slow down to a halt, then everything freezes green (unloaded map) for a while. GUI unfreezes (30-60s in frozen state) shortly after it has loaded. It seemed to stabilize temporarily after the map information was cached for a certain area, and freezes consistently again when i started zooming around in an area i hadnt done before. It may likely have something to do with map fetching / rendering.

I'm definitely seeing this problem with Opentopo but without the black side bar. I think i may have experienced it with Sentinel as well but not 100% sure on that. It's only the game that freezes when it happens rest of the computer operates fine.

Is this still an issue with the current release?
