A few days ago I lost my temper and stated that I was done posting about this non-appearing patch, and I'm still holding to that.
The patch may or may not ever get released. Nice if it does, but OK if it doesn't so far as I care anymore.

What I am concerned with is people insinuating (even as a joke) that someone might be a Nazi (NSDAP/SS number indeed!), comments about a person's paternity, authenticity of military backgrounds to include DD214's and even who is or is not "Rambo" type. Next will come the usual "he said it first" claims and defenses.

Congratulations folks this is what a "discussion" about a stupid game patch boils down to then? I'll say it again; a GAME patch for crying out loud!

Take a step back and reconsider, is this worth it? Everyone here is better than this type of stuff.

Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn't be better if Matrix would just delete or lock this entire thread and then scrub the forums of any mention at all of a final patch.

One more file was wrong, the "jump map". Fixing that. Last time we had 3 wrong files, this time we had 1 wrong file. Getting closer and closer.

So when someone stated that after 2 years and 10 months with the patch being halfway finished, that someone stated that it would take another 8 years and 40 months. So I just asked if that was the system of math that he was taught.

Also consider that Matrix is going through the patches and then releasing them, they have recently released several other patches, so it will take time. It all depends upon how fast Matrix is and how thorough that Matrix is in ensuring that the patch does not have errors. I am sure that Matrix is doing many other things other than just this patch plus the most recent releases.

Also, I do believe that I have never posted on a Matrix forum whether or not I was ever in a military organization nor if I ever even mentioned on a Matrix forum which country that I am residing in. I have mentioned it in some PMs and elsewhere so some people do know that information but it is not pertinent to the Matrix forums. But then someone again (it has happened before) decides to mention something about my Matrix user name so . . .

I have to remind myself sometimes that this is the internet. We can't see one another nor can we convey subtle meanings with gestures or vocal inflections. Emojis, pictures, and little videos while well meant and seeking to be amusing may not be funny to the next person.

Misunderstandings then abound and hostilities along with hurt feelings will happen because of this.

Who's fault is it? I say who cares? We all share responsibility equally I think by typing without thinking at times (I know I do), by demeaning the newcomer who asks what he thinks is a legitimate question about the game. By acting like a bunch of Old Salt plank owners who own this forum, and are therefore entitled to say most anything when in reality it belongs to Matrix who extend posting privileges to us.

They say communication is everything. I don't see that there has been near enough concerning this patch, especially from the Matrix heirarchy. Someone has to be in charge, and that someone with a few simple words might have been able to clear things up concerning what is going on with the slowness of this patch. Its not too late.

I for one would never consciously insult or demean another member. Your location, background, military service, and politics mean nothing to me, nor should mine to you.

What does matter I think is how we communicate with and treat each other.

I still think it's time to shut this particular thread down and if possible delete the whole thing. Start fresh with a new one and a new attitude.

I was asked to do some beta testing for the new patch. I did so but I quit counting after I found over 40 different issues reported, I reported some after that as well. The user Yaab posted about some other issues so he forwarded information on those. That is part of the reason why it is taking so long, it was not just the very limited number of things that were going to be fixed from the beginning. Another issue with this patch is some of the people have moved on from this game as well as this life. Trying to patch someone else's program is hard, it is also hard to patch a program after leaving it for so long. Think of the Y2K bug . . .

Edmon, I'm so glad you're here!

Back in July (17th) I took advantage of the kind offer in your signature to PM you regarding any questions on your (Matrix) games. My question was to an estimated release date (just an estimate) of the latest patch for WITP:AE. Given it's low priority, my PM request no doubt fell through the cracks.

Being an official Matrix rep, would you be kind enough to perhaps ask your Matrix colleagues (I'm told Matrix has the patch) and give us an update here or would you still prefer anyone curious on the patch status to periodically PM you?

Thanks!

Hey there,

I mostly deal with rules / behaviour and so forth. So the simple answer to your question is - I don't know the answer - but you could try Support@slitherine.co.uk and ask them to pass your question along to the right person.

So Matrix doesn't even know who is reviewing the patch and the status of it? They seem to be more concerned with policing behavior on the message boards than working on the patch.

I agree, this whole thread should just be shut down and the patch forgotten about until it is actually released. It was probably too ambitious from the start. Did we really need to change the map? Then we had a 50 post thread over whether it should take two mouse clicks to disband a TF. JFC.

Now I await a PM from either Gen Patton or Matrix telling me to "show respect."

The right people at Matrix do know the status of the patch and I have referred several times recently to what someone who knows what is going on with the patch has already posted on the message boards.

You do realize in this day and age that most forum moderators are sub contractors hired to enforce the company rules and policies on their forums. It’s rare anymore if they are legit employees. Companies view the position as needed but not worthy of full time employment. Often times they can be moderating several different forums at once depending on their work load n contracts..

So no, it’s not surprising that he wouldn’t know anything about the patch..

It seems there is some confusion about how things are structured here at Matrix Games, so I think it might be worth me clarifying this point so it doesn't degrade into an argument. Slitherine Group (which includes Matrix Games) is an extensive organization and my role within it is one of Community Manager - I deal with issues of moderation, policy, forums (including Steam forums) & discord for all of our catalogue of over 200 titles.

I work for the Publishing arm, not the Development Studio arm of Slitherine. Every game has us as the publisher, and then a seperate team as the developer (who might also be part of Matrix Games/Slitherine, but might be external to us).

If I am aware of such information, then I usually pass it along to the players. I am not aware in this case, as I have limited contact with the War in the Pacific Team. I do, as part of just generally wanting to be helpful, keep up with the status of our Slitherine major titles (Broken Arrow, Battlesector, Starship Troopers: Terran Command, etc). But, I'm not particularly familar with the Matrix side - there are other more expert staff members that have this knowledge.

As much as I'd like to, it's just impossible to keep up with the status of hundreds of games.

I think what you've said here is mostly true or entirely true for a lot of organizations, but I am a full time employee and lead the Community Management role - I also manage all of our team(s) of volenteer moderators and our streamer partners.

No one man can do everything alone - asking you to mail support@slitherine.co.uk isn't because I don't care and want to pass you off to someone else - it's because I want you to get an accurate answer to your question. Our support desk is able to pass your queries on to those that know the answers.
