(1328.18) air intercept mission do not go above cruise speed

Post by Tcao »

(1328.18) air intercept mission kept at cruise speed (480kt) . in pervious built , the A/C will turn on afterburner in an air intercept mission.

I think that is now by design based on the below tech thread.

Please leave this ticket open.

I'm not sure how they've decided that cruise was "a much more realistic approach" (except to be better than loiter), but I agree with OP that afterburner was more appropriate and worked well most of the time, provided that the user set the maximum intercept distance appropriately.

And it's not just that. I've tested the Air Intercept mission in CMANO, and the flights seemed to take an efficient lead pursuit trajectory to intercept the target. In 1328.18, they tend to take a pure pursuit, which, combined with maintaining a similar speed as the target, can devolve into an unproductive tail chase if the target is approached in a transverse direction.

Air Intercept missions are now another slightly frustrating example of "fixing" something that wasn't broke.

Going to post a related bug in a new thread, see here: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 0&t=404124

This seems to be better as of 1483; interceptors are willing to use AB again.
