Should a snorkeling/recharching diesel submarine dive when threat detected?

Post by boogabooga »

If a diesel submarine comes to snorkel depth automatically to recharge its batteries, should it dive when a threat is detected in accordance with it's doctrine? Or is it more important to finish recharging its batteries?
The boogabooga doctrine for CMO: Any intentional human intervention needs to be able to completely and reliably over-ride anything that the AI is doing at any time.

It depends on your specific situation. If the battery level is very low, charging is the preferred target, I usually keep 30% surplus

Can't recharge if you're dead.

You can change the "Dive when threat is detected" doctrine to determine on what conditions this will occur or disallow it if you want the submarine to continue to recharge.

No, it seems right now (and going all the wat back to CMANO) that the 'dive on threat detected' (any of them) only works after the batteries are 100% charged.

Please see the attached scenario. Go to RedFor, the "charged" Kilo dives as the S-3s approach, and the other one that is still charging does not (both share mission doctrine). This behavior goes back to CMANO, but I don't know enough about submarine ops to know if this is WAD. But if you were expecting the recharging submarine to dive, there might be an oversight in the game logic.

I know it worked at one time not long ago. A player came to tech support because their subs were diving before fully recharging. They had turned on that option. I am pretty sure it was CMO, but it was years ago.
