Sonobuoy Pattern

Post by JamesHunt »

Is there - despite manual dropping and the option "repeatable loop" that covers the edge of an ASW mission area - a way to drop sonobuoys with a certain pattern or to achive a certain spreading, especially when the sonobuoys are limited?

I think ATM these are your only options. The crew AI takes care of the spreading automatically (there is a minimum standoff dictated by the nominal detection range of each sonobuoy) and you can define the laying pattern by the "repeatable loop" course.

As test, I have started a mission built with a repeatable loop pattern that runs only one loop and the mission ends. I then use that trigger to activate another mission that is an area over the repeatable loop. It worked well in the few tests I ran. If a pattern is important enough, its only a little extra work and gives a lot of flexibility. The down side is you have to be careful with assign units and the 1/3 rule.

I use a similar approach with two missions over the ASW/Datum and then switch from loop to random. Still wish sometimes for some search/spacing logic/options. Especially in scenarios were sonobuoys are an limiting factor and you must rely on a wider spaced solution.

I am good to go, thanks Dimitris, thewood1
