Realistic or Painfully Realistic?

Post by PaulWRoberts »

Hi all,

I'm just wondering what most players consider to be the most historically accurate setting for orders delays: realistic or painfully realistic? And what's the design philosophy behind having a level beyond realistic?

Ask, Bil, a fellow beta-tester, he will tell you that "painfully realistic" is not sufficient.

So, maybe what is needed is a final setting "excruciatingly painfully realistic" or, at least, for Bil. :)

Given that our AI subordinates are a little lacking in initiative, I would question how far 'orders delay' could be pushed. Additionally, from a gameplay point of view, further increasing the orders delay (plus somehow giving AI subordinates initiative) whilst maybe more realistic would leave the player largely a spectator imho.

Eric,

That's why we ended up settling on the rates we have. [:)]

Smart move[:)] It's a fine line in a 'Real-Time' game like HTTR between 'realism' and 'gameplay' and in the end you can't please everyone. Now, if you'd designed a 'turn-based' game then ....... [;)] but we've been there before[8D]
