why waste everyone's time?

Post by generalfdog »

fyi there is a certain player who has some 80s and 90s in their handle who likes to take games and offer games and then take a few turns and resign with no warning, what a waste of time! sorry don't like to complain 99% of players on here are awesome, courteous, and great to play but this one is really annoying guess it's my fault since I keep giving him a try.

I have played a few games against this person, most of which ended after a bad turn for their side usually before the end of 1940. One Game though as the Axis they gave me a very hard fight. Kicked my Brits out of Norway and almost out of French North Africa. I end up with a toe hold in Morocco waiting for the USA to join. Invading the USSR was delayed until 1942 which I thought would leave me well prepared but by the summer of '43 the USSR was in bad shape. The Brits/USA bypassed FNA which was defended by all of the Reich's allies after a failed invasion at Oran. A second invade at Oran succeeded, barely.Tripoli and Sicily were taken and then an invasion of Italy was launched at Taranto which was another bad fail. Then a bit of luck. The invasion at Algiers (last chance for a '43 offensive) took the ground and cutoff the large forces between Algiers and Oran. Same turn I notice Oslo was open, defended only by the minefields. Landed a division to open a path thru the mines and then sent a corp to Oslo. Still the core of Germany and Italy was untouched and invading in '44 would be a hard path as the USSR would be no help. Game likely to be decided on Points. Strong odds of an Axis win and the player just quit. What a waste.

I think I faced him as well (it was a name with years numbers). Game went to 1945, to be decided on points with front line more or less historical. He resigned 2 turns before end (and he probably would have won; but I will never get to know for sure...).

So strange at this point, that I wonder if he does not find some pleasure into that...

Truly, a Game which gets down to the last month or so still undecided on Points is about as good as it gets and quite rare.

I had the same experience with the same player, so I don't play him any more. On related thought:

I another game (I think Civ) there is a "no quitters club" on a forum. Those guys vow to see it to the bitter end (unless mutually agreed otherwise). And bitter end means victory screen for one of them.
Do you think it would work to make a forum entry for "no quitters" and there whoever signs up agrees to go until the end?

(Full disclosure: I kinda feel like a sucker because I go to the end when losing but when I am winning it is cut short all the time)
