Help with Patrol Types

Post by Lanzfeld »

What is the difference between...

ASuW PATROL (NAVAL)

The manual says Units assigned to this mission will
actively search and investigate/identify waterborne contacts.

and

SEA CONTROL PATROL?

Unit assigned to this mission
with actively search and investigate/identify naval surface
and undersea contacts.

What's the difference?

"waterborne"

vs

"naval surface and undersea"

Waterborne is being used in its strictest definition of riding on the water. Not under.

The simplest answer (and to add other related patrols) is that units on...

1. ASuW Patrol (Naval) are just cruising around looking for contacts on the sea surface (ie Ships and surfaced subs).
2. ASuW Patrol (Ground) are just cruising around looking for contacts on land.
3. ASuw Patrol (Mixed) will cruise around looking for land and sea surface contacts (anything not submerged).

4. Units a Sea Control Patrol are basically doing a mix of ASuW Patrol (Naval) and ASW Patrol. They are looking to control the sea by engaging vessels on the surface and submerged.

So

1. Kills Ships and surfaced submarines.
2. Kills land units.
3. Kills ships, surfaced submarines, and land units.
4. Kills ships and submarines.

No, that is "ASuW PATROL (MIXED)"

This is a little confusing.

ASuW PATROL (NAVAL): Units assigned to this mission will
actively search and investigate/identify waterborne contacts.

§ ASuW PATROL (MIXED): Units assigned to this mission
will actively search and investigate/identify any non
submerged contact.

§ SEA CONTROL PATROL: Unit assigned to this mission
with actively search and investigate/identify naval surface
and undersea contacts

"NAVAL" and "SEA CONTROL PATROL" seem exact same to me.

EDIT: Ahh okay Tyler I THINK I get it now. Thanks. I guess "waterborne" confused me.
