CMO is a sandbox, you can easily make your own test case to learn how it works. Just place a sonobuoy somewhere and let some subs come closer.

You may use the db in a particular scenario to know it, or browse it for a general overview.

I see that the usual range is 2-5 nm. Some 6-8 nm but a few even 40 nm.

If you select one, has its own circle (underwater sensor).

Seems like a convergence zone detection.

As BDukes has suggested, this is almost certainly a convergence zone (CZ) detection. See page 13-14, 190-91 at the game manual located Here:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/down ... id=1219691

for more information on CZs. FWIW, I can't recommend highly enough the manual at the link I've provided. If you are a new player to command, and are not familiar with some of the complexities of modern naval and strike operations you definitely need to download and use this manual.

Just for as little context. The OP has been requested on Steam multiple times to at least search the manual for some of his questions and learnings.

There are times where being told to RTM is a cop-out by by someone saying they're helping. And there there are times where a new player should actually read the manual.
