Auto-disband

Post by Chris21wen »

Got some TFs that would not auto-disband. After checking the manual I found no reference to it. I find this a bit odd.

Testing produced some strange result. Using 28.4 and scn #1 I first tried disbanding the four TF at Etorofu (3), The KB, the fleet oilers, the 2xDD and the 1xAO TFs. Neither the fleet oilers or the 1xAO would auto disband and I left them for three turns just in case it was and ops thing.

I then tried Shikuka (L4), Hakodate (L6) and Tokyo (L10) with the same results.

Going back to Etorofu I changed the fleet oilers to Tanker and the 1xAO to escort. This time only the fleet oilers refused to disband. Changed it to escort and it did????

Further None of the TF set to transport or cargo would auto disband either and only ships with none merchant types would auto-disband is set to support TF.

I tried an empty AO at a level 2 port, same no auto disband.

This isn't a 28.4 problem as similar tests in 26b did the same.

Unsure why I've never noticed this before but it's wrong.

Refuelling and auto-disband

When a refuel option is set a TF will not refuel unless the TF is capable of disbanding, Further the TF also has to be able to dock.

I play .1126a and my tankers and AOs disband at LA all the time. Could it be a threat tolerance thing in your situation? Enemy aircraft in range?

I do know that my ships of any species will not auto-disband unless they have an entire 12-hour phase to do so. You tested that by leaving them there for 3 turns but did they do any refueling of other vessels during that time?

It might have been the case in the game I'm playing but not during testing, it was done in and aroung Japan dec 1941.

They did nothing, there was no other TF present.

Can you get the two oiler TF in Etotofu to disband on day one?

Hmmm. No idea. I am probably having 20 - 100 ships auto disbanding each turn and am now in early '43 in my current game. They sit in port a couple of days to clear their accumulated Sys damage and then I form new TF's ... I haven't had any issues that I have noticed in all that time ... BBfb brings up examples of things that will interfere with it, and there are others. Recon and NavSearch AC are by far the biggest issues.

I did not say I was having a problem with every TF. I had two or three that I noticed would not so tested it and found there is a problem. Until someone else does the same test under whatever version I'm sticking to mu conclusions.

Would someone just please try and auto-disband the four TF in Etotofu on first turn, if you can then I'm doing something stupid.

There are two AO TF in scen001 at Etorofu - TF 2 and TF 140. Both TF are loaded with cargo (fuel). Since they are loaded, they WILL NOT auto-disband. You have to disband them manually. I think it was actually your own conclusion from August 2023
