[PEBKAC][1500] Game Slowdown/Freeze

Post by WillpowerDisturbance »

I'm playing through the Chains of War scenario Salvo and keep running into an slowdown/freeze exactly one in-game minute after the game starts. I've set up two task pools with two packages each for time on target missions to strike airfields in Korea and Okinawa. The game will sometimes start again after a while and sometime it doesn't.

I think the issue may have to do with the number of targets that I've selected but I'm not sure since I didn't run into slowdown/freeze issue when selecting a smaller number of targets. Is there an upper limit that I should be aiming for?

Also, I think there are some issues with 'Damage Access Points' event triggering and the 'Destroying Large Hangar' event trigger is an A/C Hardened Aircraft Shelter instead of a Large Hander. If you want me to submit a separate form post for this just let me know.

Do you find the map freezes as well when zooming in/out?

I'm able to move the map around and zoom in/out.

To avoid freezing is not only required to delete the 289 targets mission, you also have to delete the 129 targets in Korea, at least in my computer.

This error is displayed in the exception log related with the freezing.

ChatGPT has its own opinion on this matter
In Command: Modern Operations (CMO), there isn't a strict official limit to the number of targets you can assign in a mission, but performance can degrade if you have a very large number of targets in one mission. The game handles complex simulations, so if you try to include a huge number of targets (for example, hundreds or thousands) in a single mission, it can potentially cause lag or even freeze.

Here are some general guidelines to help avoid issues:

Target Count: Keeping the number of targets in a manageable range (around 50–100 targets) is generally a safe bet for ensuring stable performance. The exact number can vary depending on your system specs, mission complexity, and scenario setup.

Mission Complexity: It’s also important to consider the overall complexity of your mission. If you have many targets but relatively simple instructions, CMO might handle it better. If each target has detailed rules, objectives, or has to be tracked with complex behavior (such as many specific units or aircraft), it can cause a drop in performance.

System Specs: Performance varies based on the specs of your computer. Higher-end PCs can handle more targets with less lag. However, lower-end systems may struggle with larger missions.

If you are seeing freezing or lag, try reducing the number of targets, simplifying mission tasks, or optimizing your scenario in smaller chunks.

I guess I should cut in number of targets to be closer to the number of missiles that I have available.

What I said in another recent thread: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 4#p5203314
....also applies here.

Real-life strike planners don't create just a single mission with a gigantic target set and call it a day, and you shouldn't either.

Understood. I didn't realize that the sim is evaluating every aircraft assigned to the strike for each target every pulse.

Its also just a better mission-building practice to have more discrete flights with target packages better distributed amongst multiple flights. You can use the Ops Manager to coordinate any unintended or needed overlap in targets.
