30 Research optimal

Post by Gratch1111 »

I have read and heard this but when it comes to if you have more than 30 I have heard different versions, with that I mean a research factory of for instance 60/90/120 etc. I have heard that there is no benefit, some benefit and full benefit as in 1 benefit(same as 30 factories), something more than 1(dont know what) or in case of 60 two research points. Anyone got a definite answer?

I'm no expert at the intricacies of Japanese R &D, but I'm gonna go with this excerpt from the Air War Guide. Seems pretty straight forward. 8-)

I would say absolutely no benefit what-so-ever for one, or is it two, reasons? But!, the researh routine are a little more complicated than they seem as larger factories seem to repair at a faster rate than smaller factories.

1. As research factories only produce research points if fully repaired it will take a larger factory longer before it starts producing RPs.
2. Factories over 30 don't appear to produce any extra research points per day than one with just 30. I've a Frank factory at 55 (set by scenario) that became fully repaired 10 days ago and is only producing 1 RP per day. Whether you need multiples of 60 I don't know but factories with <30 produce RPs?

If I get this right size 30 is optimal (repair effort vs. chance to get research point). Size 60 and 90 increases the CHANCE of getting 1 research point per turn but not giving multiple research points (?).

I 've read that elsewhere but but I don't see the point if correct, 30 will nearly alway give you one RP a day. The closest I've got to having 60 is the 55 franks you start the game with so never in a position to test what accually happens.

I know it says chance, but if you look at seabee, it always gets you a point, at least it has so far when I look at it. In Seabeen you can see exactly how far the research has come, turn by turn

Unless the dode has been changed it does not always give you a point, the term 'chance' is correct. It's just the lieklihood of NOT getting one with 30 is very, very low but it does happen. I don't know what seabeen is but tracker provides the same information plus you can monitor the situation throught the industry screen (j key).

Correct as I know it.

In addition to RnD, production is the same. Size 30 factory on avg gives 1/day. BUT, in the course of a game you will find some days that you got zero, AND some days that you got 2. Both the 0 and 2 events are rare, in a game you will likely see just a handful of these each year.

Here's a video I did on Japanese R&D fundamentals. It'll be a good watch for new players to Japan:
