[Logged] Problem setting minimum altitude

Post by ronmexico111 »

I've been having an issue where I try to set an aircraft to go to it's minimum altitude using the button but it won't go under 1000 feet unless I use the altitude slider. Does anyone else have this issue as well?

The buttons are preset altitudes. If you want to go lower than the 'safety' minimum, you need to set it manually.

I know it is a preset. I actually can't get this to replicate at the moment (maybe a glitch on my end) but if it becomes an issue again I'll post a save.

Ok, so the situation here is that when the terrain following button is checked in the altitude menu, you can't select the Min. altitude button. However, when the terrain following button is unchecked, you can select the Min. altitude button. My save is attached.

I'm trying to understand exactly what the problem is?
You have given the aircraft orders to try to keep as low as possible by following the terrain by checking the box. But you don't want it to?

I think the issue is that "terrain following" means operate at a fixed distance AGL. It does not mean fly as low as possible. You can normally set this distance to be whatever you like, manually or with the buttons. In this case the concern is that the "min" button is not available.

Well the "terrain following" box's function is simply to tell an aircraft to fly using ASL or AGL altitude, that's all it does. For example, if an aircraft was ordered to fly at 2000 feet by selecting the appropriate button in the altitude menu and the altitude above sea level below the plane is 400 feet then it's indicated altitude will be 1600 feet. However, if the "terrain following" box is checked, then it's altitude will be shown as 2400 feet ASL and 2000 feet AGL. If the minimum altitude button is pressed then the aircraft (in CMANO) has always gone to it's lowest possible altitude (based on the aircraft and crew quality) whether the "terrain following" box is checked or not. In CMO however, the issue at hand is that when the "terrain following" box is checked it is somehow disabling the minimum altitude button. This was not the case in CMANO.

Still having low altitude issues in Dec 2024. Regardless of having the TF box checked or not, I often cannot get even Ace level a/c to fly below 1000' using either the alt slider or the manual alt text box. Seems hit or miss, sometimes a full reinstall from Steam fixes the issue.

Can I suggest before do uninstall/reinstalls you post a save for someone to look at. Can save you some aggravation. Also might want to create a separate thread. Both of these suggestions are as requested in the dev outline on how to ask for help.
