Where's my food commander?

Post by wobbly »

What is the functionality of invasion troops having their own supplies, or more importantly, not having them?

In conducting fast transport missions especially, I find that the troops have no supplies; but then, just to prove me wrong, the next time i conduct a fast transport mission the troops that are dropped off DO have supplies. I cannot find a reason why one mission differs from the other: loading "only troops" or "troops" does not seem to make a difference.

This is not restricted to Fast transport. I just conducted a normal invasion. On the first day the troops landed without supplies. On the second day these same unsupplied troops have been reissued supplies (phew).

Why did they loose the internal supplies they had before loading the transports?

Why did their mates in the same TF NOT loose their supplies?

I ask this as I often look at one infantry regiment, notice they have supplies, and then set all troops to assault; only to find half of the troops have no internal supplies and they suffer massive disruption!

P.S. for clarity i am meaning the supplies you look at within the regiment itself - not sitting at the base.

I asked similar question(s) long ago but those threads were lost when hacker attacked (damn him )...

If I recall there was no unified answer and, most probably, this is some kind of bug in play...

I've also noticed this! Even though Mike has bombed my base at Irau almost into the Pacific, the units there still have internal supply. Perhaps they're saving their sake rations for a last banzai charge!?-)

This is also the case with the troops I fast transported to KiraKira.

Also note that in UV there is "Fast Transport" bug that prevents the supply to be unloaded with troops (when you are transporting both troops and supply in same FT TF).

Regardless of the fact that you have supplies loanded they simply vanish at destination... [:(]

P.S: I asked for this long ago and was told that it is fixed in WitP.

Well considering that a fair portion of the internal supply will be actullay carried by the troops (3 days worth of rations and ammo), then it is not that surprising

I've never seen anything in the forum that tells you how supply conversion (from internal to external) works but I don't think its just a random "buggy" thing. I've found that in large invasions against opposition, some units (especially INF) accumulate 4-5000 points worth of supply internally (this seems to account for supplies offloaded during landing). They maintain this approximate level until the base is captured, at which time a large chunk is lost from internal accounting and appears (presumably) as external, base supplies. Its virtually impossible to track supplies with more than a single unit involved because of the variable usage depending on activities of the troops.

I have also done some experiments in head-to-head mode and found that units with substantial internal supply can hold out almost indefinitely (ie. with no significant attrition) against bombing or bombardment attacks, even when their base supplies are at zero. Internal supply levels do not seem be reduced by these air and fleet attacks. It appears that you need to use ground attack to use up internal supplies.
