Forced to new Laptop Win 11, need to move game
Hello,
Been gone quite a while. I have to reconstitute WiTP AE to a new Win 11 laptop. Old laptop (Win 10) drive unavailable at the moment - tech working to see if he can reboot it. Playing my 8th full campaign/1 day turns. I have been playing almost 8 years. Probably have to start over. Hope not.
Requests: I need to locate info regarding recommended switches needed for the execute shortcut. If possible, I would also like to reclaim my saved campaign files. I have a campaign start save (after Dec 7) based on the weeks-long, click fest set up files. Would like to avoid redoing starting set-up. Currently in April 1944, IIRC.
Any other suggestions are welcome.
FYI, I have searched this forum but did not uncover subject posts. I recall posts recommending shortcut switches in the past.
Thanks in advance,
Ray M

Re: Forced to new Laptop Win 11, need to move game
There's lot on switches and is the easy part, here's what I put together.
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... t#p5077564
When it comes to accessing your saves it's more difficult. The only place they are saved is on yours and your oppenents machince so you need to be able to copy which means access on yours. I'm hoping all you need to do is get you oppenent to send a copy to you but I don't know if that depends on which side you are playing. Just try it and panic if it doesn't work.

You can also download and use Seabee to get the shortcuts set up. Adjust as necessary.

This is also important for installing things on computers . . .

Oh! yes. Once ordered some Polycarbonate Sheeting, enough for a panel in a greenhouse. When it came it was in a smll envelope? Turns out I'd ordered it in mm not cm, the form was clear on the internet but not obvious. When I queried it wuth the company as to why some one would want bit that small I was told it could be for a 'dolls house'.
Re: Forced to new Laptop Win 11, need to move game
Good news!
I finally have my new laptop with Win 11. I started with the basic game and ran the updates in order.
After some ups and downs, I configured my shortcut settings/switches to have it run well but for one thing.
As I move the mouse within the game, sometimes I get dumped out to my desktop...the game however is still running. I move the mouse again and it pops back to the game screen. This did not happen on my old machine. Any suggestions?
Note: Unfortunately, I have had to start over with the Allies Set-Up. Could not reclaim old save files.
So happy to have the game again.

Does the mouse thing happen near the taskbar? You can hide the taskbar for good.

If you have registered your game, you can always download it from Matrix Store.

Thank you for the responses.
Turned on *Automatic Hide of Taskbar*. Helped a bit...not as sensitive to flipping to desktop. Mouse pip location on game screen triggering the flip appears random. Living with it at the moment as I add Allies Set-Up orders.
Further suggestions are welcome.

Re: Forced to new Laptop Win 11, need to move game
It sounds like you tyrying to play in full screen. I have always had problems with full screen so I always use a window. Use a window and set pxf/pyf. Here's mine that give a nearly full same area only marginally smaller than my screen size of 1920x1080.RayM2 wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 4:42 am Thank you for the responses.

Re: Forced to new Laptop Win 11, need to move game
What he said. If you use the pxf/pxy switches and windowd mode, you can adjust your game boundries to look like a full screen. I just came back to the game a bit ago and forgot about adding the "y" to the switch. If you don't, you are forced into just standard resolutions.Chris21wen wrote: Wed Jan 08, 2025 7:27 amIt sounds like you tyrying to play in full screen. Re: Forced to new Laptop Win 11, need to move game
Thanks for the suggestions. I had included the *-f* switch. It appears that I too have one of those laptops (HP Probook 450 G10, 15.6 screen) that can't or (won't?) run the game in full-screen. Hmm.
Current switches: -pxf1919 -pyf1080 -dd_sw -deepColor -archive -w
Laptop display recommended: 1920 x1080
Swapping a *-w* for *-f*, the resulting game window is pushed into upper left corner, bottom edge is truncated. Bottom edge is slight below *contractor* text on left-hand data/nomenclature panel.
I will fiddle with -pxf and -pyf values. Will also try -px and -py alternative.
Or I may just live with it until I can't.
Thanks...RayM2

This is what I use, the pxf/pxy values may solve your problems.RayM2 wrote: Fri Jan 10, 2025 2:06 am Thanks for the suggestions. I had included the *-f* switch. It appears that I too have one of those laptops (HP Probook 450 G10, 15.6 screen) that can't or (won't?) run the game in full-screen. Hmm.

Re: Forced to new Laptop Win 11, need to move game
Just another thing about switches, -dd_sw sometimes in some machines causes dropping to desktop and desktop things showing as transparent in game.
So, might be useful to check how game works without that switch.

Re: Forced to new Laptop Win 11, need to move game
Update.
I deleted the *-dd_sw* switch and fired it up. With that deletion, the white text on bright pink background returned throughout. However, continuing into the game, a few moves of the mouse and a few clicks around the map were unmarred by a switch to desktop. Hmm.
Next experiment, set up for window mode again and investigate how to stretch the window to fill up more of my screen. I recall some guidance somewhere,,,any suggestions where I might find them?
Note: Last couple tries in window mode, the screen appeared in the upper left-hand corner...see previous update post for more details. One time, the window appeared centered on the screen with lots of desktop around it.
In the meantime, I'm continuing to add Allies Set-Up orders in full screen mode.
One more question. Is there a list of recommended laptops (incl hw/sw configuration) on which the game runs well in full-screen? I appreciate how varied the configurations may be.
Thank you one and all...

Re: Forced to new Laptop Win 11, need to move game
A repost below, with some changes:
I am running the game on a laptop with 15.6 inch screen. Screen's native resolution is 1920 x1080.
Here is my switch
"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -altFont -skipVideo -archive -deepColor -dd_sw -px1366 -py768
The game runs in full screen, zero graphical glitches. The 1366 x 768 is a true 16:9 resolution, supported by my laptop screen.
In "Personalize your screen" in Win11, my text, apps size is set to 125%, which is the recommended setting.
I can run the game in 1366 x 900 resolution in full screen (text and apps set to 100% recommended), but then the game icons and text are too small for me.
Hope it helps.

Thank you for the detailed response. I will look into it.
Big surprise tonight. It occured to me that my typewriter slideshow background has been working while running the game. I turned off the slideshow (change photo every minute) and (fingers crossed) no drop out has appeared since.
Continuing to set up new campaign.
