Unable to intercept

Post by Kobu »

In the attached a Fateh ASBM is attacking a DDG and if you follow the course of action you can see that you only have a small window of a few seconds to fire a missile at it, then as it is approaching the DDG if you try to fire a missile at it the message "Unable to intercept" appears in the firing window even though the conditions to fire are suitable. This happens with this type of short-range ballistic missiles, with ballistic missiles like the DF-21, DF-26 this problem does not exist, in these engagements once the DF-21/26 are within the missiles' envelope they can be fired without problem until the missile enters the minimum range.

I've played around with this for a bit and I can get the SM-6 to fire at the Fateh just fine if the Burke is allowed to automatically engage it. Since you have it on hold fire it never does. I can understand the manual engagement being a problem since its so brief, and we're continuing to look into missile performance/kinematics

I never use manual engagement for BM interception. As the dino-guy says, the launch window is so narrow and brief, its almost impossible to get it to work. In my Hormuz benchmark scenario, SM-6s have about a 90% success rate on auto.

It takes a while for the ASBMs to launch, but eventually they do. You can run it on double flame.

Re: [WAD] Unable to intercept

Maybe I haven't explained myself well.

I know perfectly well that the ship is in "weapons hold" it is configured that way on purpose to be able to highlight the problem.

My point is that there is only a very short window to fire the ASBM both manually and automatically after which it is not possible to fire it again even if the conditions are suitable.

In the attachment the launch window opens with the ASBM at 31nm from the ship, 67km high and 1929kts, after 17 seconds and with the ASBM at 24nm the launch window closes and it is now impossible to fire again (in case the first launched missiles have failed) against the ASBM.

The question is, why? It is within the SM-6's altitude, distance and speed range and has plenty of time to intercept it.

I attach another example where the only thing that changes is that the confrontation is against a DF-21. Here the first SM-6 is also fired at 30nm between the ship and the ASBM that travels at 102km altitude and 6500kts, if this fails you can continue firing until you enter within the minimum range of the SM-6 of 4nm, in fact unlike in the other example the ESSM can be used as a point defense, which is not possible against the Fateh.
In total the launch window against the DF-21 is 34 seconds against the 17 of the Fateh despite the fact that the first one goes three times faster.

In my opinion there is something that does not fit with the operation of these short-range ASBMs, it happens with more than just the Fateh.

Thewood, the first thing before answering a post where a specific problem is exposed is to download the scenario and test it.
Otherwise it is very difficult to understand what I am explaining, you spend your days asking people to attach the scenario so you can understand what is happening and when it is done you are not able to look at it.

btw, I didn't download your scenario yet because I was not at my CMO machine. I figured validating that manual engagement on SRBMs is difficult with lone ships in a real scenario was enough. And I'll do it again as needed.
