Computer Upgrade Questions

I just had to upgrade my computer to Windows 11. The requirements of CMO list Windows 8, 9, and 10 as the operating system, but it does not specifically mention Windows 11. I assume that the game works on Windows 11. Please let me know if it will not.

Additionally, what is the preferred method of transferring all of my CMO files to a new computer? Do they all have to be manually installed, one by one, or can the entire folder be transferred as a group? I haven't had to do this for a long time, and a lot of things have not doubt changed. What's the best method for accomplishing this?

Works fine on Windows 11.

After you install CMO, either method should work. You could do it one by one if your limited on space on the drive you're using to move the files or you could just copy and replace.

When moving PCs, I keep a back up of the scenario folder and config folder in the cloud and on an external HD. The cloud one is most current and makes moving CMO around easy but the HDD is really a true back up done monthly. I used to keep and image and description folder backup also, but its just easier to re-download it.

btw, if you check the benchmark thread, you'll see that most people are using Win11.

One of the best things about Command is how easy it is to back up your scenario folders and config file.

In the couple of occasions when I've had to switch PCs, all I've needed to do was Copy+Paste my custom folders (Betas, My Scenarios) and my save-games onto a flash drive.

I generally don't need to back up the CSP folder as I've got a great internet connection and I can just re-download it.

I have a desktop folder where I keep all things Command related that are not part of the actual program files. It's a handy single place that I can easily back up to a flash drive if needed. I also have a desktop shortcut to the Command Scenario directory so I can quickly go in and out of there to add beta scenarios from this forum, the latest CSP, and to clean up old save files.

Can my existing entire Matrix\CMO folder containing all of the files just merely be copied and placed in the same area on the new computer without having to actually "install" something?

You can do that. But you have to register the game and all DLCs through the tool on the Matrix site.

I've had issues in the past with attempting to manually move installed programs/apps, so my personal suggestion would be to play the safe route and simply reinstall.

If you had the Steam version, it would be very easy to move the install folder.

I've never had stream, and my original version is on the CD that I purchased, and the new computers don't even have those, so that might be an issue there.

All of my CMO programs are already registered with Matrix, but it sounds like they would have to somehow be updated to the new computer.

By moving the entire folder it would seem as if it would work, unless CMO has some files located outside of the folder, or unless they are key-related issues.

I can already see where this is heading. I would recommend you do a full install and not try moving anything but scenarios around.

I have installed the CMO game from its original CDs that came with the game in 2019 onto my new computer.

Do I need to first install "TINY" (or any other version), or can I jump straight to installing the current update (1527) to complete the process?
