Leaders history background

Post by Henoch »

Is there any information about how the initial background of the leader influences the skill learnings, liked job or stats?
I know that if a leader was a farmer he may be good as a governor or if he was a soldier he probably will like to learn military skills and work as unit commander. But this is quite obvious. I don't know what exactly such backgrounds can impact. And how other less obvious roles work (rogue, adventurer etc.) do you have any resources or experience with it?

It impacts 2 things.

The first one is the carreer: old leaders can have multiple backgrounds and a scout will pick one among a few backgrounds for its next job when generating his carreer. This is my personal interpretation of the game tables, this is not documented anywhere.

The second one is skill level: each background has a set of skills that the leader may get exp in (depending on age IIRC).

Related to the second point, a leader will try to invest xp in any skill it has used, as part of his carreer, before being employed by the player as well as those assigned by the player, with a bias towards skills with low skill level and with skill usage.

These lists can be found in the game tables.

Thank you, it's very interesting what you say.

I've checked few of my leaders history and I've found such mapping between backgrounds and skills:
rogue - bribery
mechanic - demolitions
scientist - science, inventor
farmer -agriculture
enforcer - interrogation
community leader - oratory
trader - trade
military commander - from the front ( and other military ones )

So according to what you say I would expect the rogue will have starting bribery skill and later on tend to spend some XP on it.
I've checked and indeed they try to improve such skills from time to time. Also I've noticed that leaders in reserve more often chose those background based skills.

Cheers!
