Bomb Damage?

Post by HMSDevonshire »

Is Bomb damage or Naval gunfire purely ramdon ? if you hit a carrier or BB with a 1000lb bomb
are they ranges between 0 & 100 (magazine Explosion) or 0-40 etc with a 1 n 100 hundred chance of magazine explosion.

just interested !

In this game even 1000 lb. bombs do not penetrate the deck of a BB to get to the magazine. They can do that to cruisers and about one in a hundred will cause a magazine explosion. Same for torpedo hits. DDs blow up a bit more easily - say one in 80 penetrating hits.
CVs can get explosions of their aviation fuel (about one in 20) or an ammo storage explosion - gun ammo (about one in 30). In all the games I have played and AARs I have read I have only seen a CV have a magazine (bombs and torpedoes) explosion that destroyed the ship once.

One of the intrinsic games within the game is to watch the animated combats and see what caliber/size hits are scored and what messages say about the hit ('internal explosion' means a little more damage, but not catastrophic while 'critical hit' means a significant amount of damage - engineering damage I think). Personnel losses mean a decrease in crew experience which reduces effectiveness of damage control.

As the Japanese playerI was once "lucky" enough to have a single US k 14 torpedo hit the YAMATO and
watch as it scored a MAGAZINE EXPLOSION - which sunk the YAMATO!
It really sucked

Greyjoy sank Yamato the same way, but with a PT boat torpedo! David and Goliath déja vu!

There are very very small possibilities of harbour accidents too.

I think there was someone's ship explode in harbour (as happened in real life to BB Mutsu). And one ship fell from struts in drydock, causing more damage. Etc.

So there is some very very rare flavour events too.

In my recent game IJN CV had magazine explosion after been hit by 1000lb bomb from Dauntless, more common since CVs are basically floating bombs.
