Cargo issue

Post by HWolfe1963 »

I thought I understood how to do cargo but evidently not. I am running "tighten the straightjacket" and I have NSM batteries that are at in cargo an inland airbase, with no aircraft with the capability to lift them to the battle area. I "think" I have a ship or ships that can move them, but I don't know how to get them from the airbase to a port. There are no fixed wing cargo aircraft, only CH-53s that cannot lift them (too heavy), and MV-22's with even less capacity. I have tried moving them overland to the port but they run out of fuel enroute and even if they got to the vicinity of the port I don't know what I would do then. Reading the manual totally confuses me. How do I do this? There must be some intention in the scenario for them to get to the battle area, it sort of says that in the description, but I cannot figure out how!

I don't know that scenario (not in my files) but there are 3 or 4 NSM batteries in the Cargo database, none will fit on a Heli as some are "Large" and others too heavy. You need fixed wing to move them, maybe fly one into the airbase. As you said, they can drive themselves and if they run out of fuel, you could use the 53's to move a 20 ft container Tank to move fuel half way so they can refuel, but I doubt the scenario has one in it. If so, you are all set. Otherwise, the NSM are going to be limited to how far they can drive.
If you get them to the port you can have them enter cargo there and you could then load them onto a ship or aircraft at the port airfield. (Select the PORT and unit orders and "select units to pickup" and the ground unit will enter the port as cargo).

The helos at the airbase are only capable lifting Medium sized cargo - the NSM batteries are classed as Large cargo. Of the ships already deployed, the Light Amphibious Warship is capable of loading the NSM batteries off the beach. I unloaded one of the batteries from the airbase and directed it to drive north to the coast, about 12 miles distant. I ordered a Light Amphib Warship to pick it up [Unit Orders -> Select Unit(s) to pickup], it sailed to the NSM battery and loaded it.

Thank you, I will try that!
