no map just white

Post by dgs@buckeye-express.com »

I just purchased a new Laptop with windows 11. I tried to run West Front and everything looked good until I loaded a scenario when the map popped up it was blank. I tried changing the resolution but it does not work. Instead of white it was black and white bars. Is there a fix for this of will it not run on windows 11

If your game appears completely white on Windows 11, especially in a "Campaign Series" title, it's likely due to a graphics driver issue, potentially caused by incompatible settings or outdated drivers, which can lead to incorrect color rendering and a white screen display.
Possible reasons and solutions:

Outdated graphics drivers:
Update drivers: Go to your graphics card manufacturer's website (like NVIDIA or AMD) and download the latest drivers for your card.
Reinstall drivers: If updating doesn't work, completely uninstall and reinstall the drivers.

Incorrect graphics settings:
Check in-game settings: Go to your game's graphics settings and ensure they are set to appropriate levels, avoiding extreme settings that might strain your system.
Adjust resolution: Try lowering the resolution in-game to see if that resolves the issue.

Windows settings conflicts:
Check Windows display settings: Go to Windows settings > System > Display and ensure your color settings are set to the default or a suitable profile.
Disable HDR: If you have HDR enabled, try disabling it temporarily to see if that fixes the problem.

Game compatibility issues:
Check for updates: Make sure you are running the latest version of the game with any available patches.
Compatibility mode: If the game is older, try running it in compatibility mode for a previous Windows version.

What to do next:
Restart your computer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches.
Verify game files: Check for corrupted game files within your game launcher and repair them if necessary.

It looks like some installs of Windows 11 don't install the full DX9 files required. Please try installing this:

And then restarting your computer.

I guess that's a start?

Did anything else work?

Do any of the editors work?

I also have this problem.

Installed JTCS on Win 11 and the maps are white, while all other functionality, display and buttons are normal.

Have worked through all the diagnostics with Slitherine Support without resolution.

The map files are BMP files. I can see them in Windows Explorer so they are not corrupt.

The JTCS Unit Viewer displays the units correctly.

Somehow the game, scenario editor and map editor show a white map.

Is there a fix?

Slitherine went thru a number of things:

> reinstalling Nvidia and Intel graphics drivers
> forcing program to run one or the other
> dxdiag reports
> Visual C++ 32 bit
> rebooting with only one monitor
> Windows clean boot

It seems like a number of people have had this problem.

Weird, because the JTCS Unit Viewer works fine and in the game files on the C drive I can see the BMP terrain files in the preview--and they look normal.

Yes.

Also installed the 2010 DX Runtimes. Didn't solve.

I just purchased the ME + Vietnam bundle and have the same problem.
Feeling pretty foolish.
Didn't read this first.

So.... its a clunker and can't be fixed ?
Is that the story ?

Where is the fix, or I'll take a refund.

Hello and welcome.
Recently I had to switch to a computer with Win11. It turned out that one of the three CS games did not work properly on the new system. Raising Sun conflicts with the Nvidia component and when RS starts, the map screen freezes. The problem is NOT SOLVED at all, as the title of the post suggests. The proposed solution is cumbersome and inconvenient.
I would like to kindly ask Jason and his team to look into this problem and solve it in the form of a fix that will help players use the purchased game on computers with Win11. West Front and East Front work ok. Raising sun does not work (the rs.exe file probably conflicts with the Nvidia component. If we change the name to, for example, rsa.exe, the game will run but without access to the menu, start screen, etc. This is not a good solution. I am asking for help and solving the problem...
Regards.

There has been an update from Microsoft for the integrated drivers released a couple days ago that should fix this.

Try here:
It's now working in my laptop with the new Intel drivers (released 2 days ago) Intel® Graphics Driver 32.0.101.6732:

Hi Jason,

I updated Windows today (was on pause) to Windows 11, version 24H2. Used your link to update graphics and I am good to go.

Thanks for the help.
