Adding extra pilots

Post by DKF12 »

Is it a good tactic to add extra pilots to a squadron that is in training mode?

Yes, the more rookies you add the more rookies train up in skills.

Well, maybe...there are things to consider here. Add too many and you get diminishing returns.... you have to discern how fast you want pilots to train keeping in mind fatigue. Low altitude training can kill tired pilot. Tired planes can crash, thus wasting a pilot...so a number of things to consider before dumping a lot of pilots into a training squadron... like many things in this game, one size seldom fits all....

Yes, it is a good idea. But add trained pilots who will raise the average of both the experience and those skills that you want those pilots to learn. It seems that the pilots will train faster if their skill rating is not more than +5 above the average. So by raising the average for the skills, then the pilots will get the higher skills faster. Then to get experience, they will need to fly missions. For fighter pilots, flying CAP over a base in the rear areas will raise their experience faster than training if the experience is greater than 50. The top level of training for skills seems to be 70 although some pilots may go a few points higher than that number.

If I have squadrons to use for training I fill them up with rookies, at 100% training check back on them every month or so. Usually on the 1st of the month. Then if the skill is over 70 I train them in something else. After the training is complete i set at 100% for there main skill for a month. Then send the pilots to the reserve pool except for the commander and reload with rookies. This has worked perfectly for me....GP
