Game Version: 1.08 – Build 1662
Database Version: DB3K v512
Severity: Major
Subject
IR-guided A2A missiles lose lock at medium-to-longer ranges (still within a short-range AAM’s envelope) and wander aimlessly
Description
Infra-red seekers no longer track targets reliably in Build 1662. Missiles fired from moderate or “longer” ranges — but still well inside the launch parameters — quickly lose the target and drift until fuel exhaustion.
At very short range the missiles still score hits, yet this appears to be the internal “end-game” resolution that fires once the weapon is inside a tiny slant-range window, not proof that the seeker has maintained continuous track.
The behaviour differs from earlier builds, where the same weapons held lock across their full intercept envelope.
Frequency
Always (100 % reproducible with the attached scenarios)
Steps to Reproduce
- Load IR Seeker Issue.scen (Pre-Engagement). Blue and Red fighters carry only IR missiles (AA-11, AIM-9M).
- Allow either side to fire from medium range (still within the missiles’ max range).
- Observe in the post-engagement saves that:
• AA-11s wander aimlessly after losing lock.
• An AIM-9M drops track almost immediately in one test. - Repeat at point-blank range—hits occur, but only because the end-game routine triggers once range is minimal.

Additional Notes
- Issue affects every Russian and NATO IR AAM tested so far.
- Correct seeker behaviour is critical; please consider fixing before the next public release.
