[1674] Pursuing the target despite low fuel

Post by erick33 »

There is an issue where aircraft assigned to a patrol mission, even when low on fuel and in need of aerial refueling, recklessly pursue enemies at maximum speed, eventually running out of fuel and crashing. In some cases, even when they are en route to refuel, they suddenly switch to pursuing enemy targets at full speed and end up crashing due to fuel exhaustion. I have attached the scenario in which this issue occurs. Please take a look and investigate.

Please open the attached file in Editor Mode and check the China side. The J-20 flight assigned to a mission is pursuing the enemy despite being low on fuel.

I tend to face the opposite problem occasionally: A/c assigned to a patrol abandoning a "hot" situation to seek refuel. For this reason I usually change the mission refuel doctrine to "never" when enemy a/cs are in the prosecution zone.

For now I recommend having more tankers closer to the CAP mission, those J-20's have to fly very far to their CAP and they basically need to immediately refuel. The AI is having trouble deciding what to do, RTB, refuel from a tanker that already has a long queue, or switch to another airbase. You can mitigate that by putting more tankers closer to them

Thank you. However, from what I can see, the problem is that aircraft cancel their refuel mission and pursue enemy aircraft while en route to receive aerial refueling. It seems that mission priorities are not being set correctly. This issue is not resolved even if a large number of tankers are deployed.

Right, so the best thing to do is manually order them to use tankers that are closer to them as the AI is unable to decide what to do

Right, so the best thing to do is manually order them to use tankers that are closer to them as the AI is unable to decide what to do

That's right, but if such a problem occurs with the enemy AI, it's not possible to fix it manually. And that's exactly the issue I'm facing now. Anyway, thank you for checking.
