What happens to Djibouti when captured by the Italians after the fall of France and the creation of Vichy?
Does Djibouti revert to Vichy or stays under Italian control? Thanks

It will accept the terms of the armistice which means it will become Vichy territory.

If I remember correctly it will stay Axis if there is an unit in it. But I am not sure about it.

It works that way for the allies. So yes, should be same for axis too. But not sure since axis rarely capture Djibouti.

Sounds like a wild game already :o

Ps: a unit has to stay in Djibouti at all times though. If it is left empty, it will still turn to Vichy even years after fall of France. So you might want to consider if it is worth the garrison. Takes about a year for Djibouti to pay for 50mpp.

Just to clarify: only the presence of an Allied (non-French) unit will prevent it from becoming Vichy territory.

The Axis offered the French an armistice, so they have to (at least for one turn) abide by its terms, which means that if they have a unit present it will be moved out, and the territory becomes Vichy.

I have tested it now in Hotseat mode. Djibuti or French Somalialand are not part of the Vichy event.
If it is not conquered the garrison is not affected, so it stays allied French Somalia.
If there is an allied or axis untit in it, none of them will be displaced during the Vichy event.
I even put a French unit in it and this switched to free French (I think there is only a 20% chance for this).

Also a few turns later nothing will change regardless if there is any unit present or not.

I rememberd that French Somalialand was part of the Vichy event, but now it is definitely not in the 1939 campain.

I can now confirm that Djibouti remains under Axis control once Vichy is formed. Even if there are no units in the capital afterwards, Djibouti does not revert to the Allied side.

I see the issue.

If French Somaliland has surrendered then the relevant Surrender script will not work, so it will remain under Axis control.

Unfortunately there isn't a solution that is both easy and good. The only option would be to remove French Somaliland from the map and have the territory transferred to another Vichy entity.

I think it's fine as it is now. If the Axis actually make the effort and succeed in taking land in East Africa, they deserve all the bonuses. Most games, they won't succeed or even try at all. If they are going to lose Djibouti after going through the effort to take it, then no one will ever even try.

I agree with Umeu. I wouldn't make any changes.
