Game doesn't work on Windows 11

Post by midgard30 »

I don't know if there is still support for this game, but I recently upgraded my OS for windows 11 and the game doesn't work anymore. It seems the serial key is no more registered when using AGESettings.exe (in admin mode), the key field is always empty.

Thanks

You may do it manually, find the file General.opt. It is located in this folder:

"Wars in America\WIA\Settings"

Open it with a text editor like notepad.

Add the serial to the line:

Code: Select all

7. Serial number (unencrypted, keep this file for you only)
Serial =

Save and close.

It did work, but then I had an Access violation in WIA.exe. I did manage to solve the issue though.

This may concern only those using Windows 11 ARM (for MacBook M1), as it may be due to the ARM emulation and not Windows 11 per se. For information, I gave all access to folder "Wars in America" to my user and set ARM parameters as shown in the attached image.

Thanks for your help

Yes including the "-" character. Did you give to your windows user all access to the "Wars in America" folder? I had to do that to make it work.

I hadnt. It took me some time to learn how to do it with W11 but I think I did it right.

I edited my user's permits that are resalted, to get this final result. But it still doesnt work after inputing the key in the right file and location within.

You should not install games in a program files folder, is controlled by Windows unless you disable the UAC. This causes problems in Ageod games and others.

Uninstall and reinstall in a games or juegos folder.

Also run as administrator just in case.

Do you have an error message, something like “missing library”? This may sounds bizarre, but if you have another AGEOD game like Rise of Prussia, you can try to reinstall it. Unfortunately I don’t remember the details, but I know one of their game didn’t work until I installed another one (probably because it has a missing library no more available in Win11). I own WiA2, RoP and fog:Kingdom. After installing all of them, they’re all working fine now.

Good luck!

I prefer "Juegos". in fact the first time I and some of the other trials I used this one, but I switched to "Program Files" after being unsuccessful cause I remember some games that didnt work unless in the default address. Default in this case was "Program Files":

I will try again anyway with the new advices.

I own a lot of AGEOD games, they are my favourite providers. I think I have seen some patches that for some reason seem to be valid for several games or affect them somehow. I will try that too, starting with RoP.

EDit: I did no get any "Missing library" message, only some 2 or 3 about "invalid address" or similar, and then another one of the same kind, all at the end of the install, and then it hanged. I had to close them with the task manager and then there was a message of "installation complete" or something similar but it obviously was not so. I then edited the file that needed the activation code but to no avail.
