SC version of the game Broken Arrow.
SC version of the game Broken Arrow.
This has probably been brought up before. But I was wondering if anyone else would want the next SC title to be something like the Cold War goes hot.
Imagine a strategic version of the new game Broken Arrow. Can you say Tactical Nukes? Lol
The Main scenario could be a hot War in Europe circa mid 80s.
Then you could have scenarios that cover the various other crises in Cold War Europe. Such as a shooting war over the Berlin Blockade in 1948, the Berlin crisis of 1961, also you could have a scenario where War breaks out in Europe when Nixon raised the US forces to Defcon 3 during the Yom Kippur War in 1973.
You could also have DLC that covers other parts of the world during the Cold war. Such as a full scale Sino Soviet war in Manchuria in the late 70s, the Korean War, and a scenario where the US invaded Cuba during the Cuban missile crisis.
Does anyone else find the above interesting?

That would be a mid 1980s conflict.
Starts conventional and the use of Tactical Nukes an option, though every turn they were used, a player had to roll on a table we lovingly called the Doomsday Chart...if a bad die roll was made, then the conflict went full Strategic, and it was game over.
In one match I was playing as Nato, my Warsaw Pact opponent broke through to the Rhine near Frankfurt. I had the French use Tac Nukes, and did so for like 4 turns, making the die roll each time and not ending the world. My opponent was laughing about my good luck and the fact that I made central Germany a smoking ruin in order to save it.
We reflected on that somber situation and decided to end it right there.
I bet it something similar could be design using the current SC engine.

Sounds interesting and fun.
I played something similar from SPI back in the 70s. It was called NATO.
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/794 ... -the-1970s
It also had tactical nukes. No escalation to strategic weapons in the game. The designer wrote something like this in the game notes...
To simulate strategic nuclear weapons, soak the map in lighter fluid and strike a match.
I think strategic command would be even better than these old games. You could have a map similar to WiE and have fighting all the way from Iceland to Israel. Imagine the 6th fleet, fighting the Russian Black Sea fleet for control of the eastern Mediterranean. Or the break out of the Soviet northern fleet into the north Atlantic. Not to mention the massive tank battles on the North German plain.
Did you ever read the book Red Storm rising by Tom Clancy? Or The Third World War: August 1985 by John Hackett?
Imagine a game with that kind of scope.

Thanks, I might just check that out.
However, I really yearn for an official SC game, with all the usually polish their games are known for.

I read the 2 books you mentioned....and there was another game based on Clancys book called Red Storm Rising.
https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/370 ... orm-rising
It was real good too. I remember a game mechanic where if the Soviets used Chemical Weapons as a advantage on German soil (West or East), that a check had to be made with each DDR (East German) unit to see if it was demoralized or would desert.
Also tac nukes were an option..but like the other game mentioned, use of just one resulted on rolling on a nuclear escalation table...and it was easy to get the result that the game was over with No Victor. You know...Game Over.

Re: SC version of the game Broken Arrow.
It is safer than Witcher 3 gaming or Fantasy General 2 is free with Slitherine (25th anniversary) enviroment politically about designing Cold War... But don't plant missiles in Erzurum again. Beta testers should be telling about this design first and experiences? There should be respect to Marine Corps individual around 44 years of service, as written in Steam page.
Re: SC version of the game Broken Arrow.
Are you referring to the Missles in Erzurum during the Cuban missile crisis? Or the ones that Turkey have there today?

Sounds like a good game, but i played board wargames for over 30 years and i just can't bring myself to ever playing a board wargame again. Plus computers take up way less space.
Remember Avalon Hills Jutland? You needed an entire room to play it on the floor.
Oh, do you remember SPIs Red Star White Star. It was like a cold war version of Panzerblitz.

Ha we used to play Jutland over at my friends house in their downstairs rec-room. I remember we played all weekend when we did Jutland, with reruns of Star Trek, etc and movies on the TV going all day.
Was aware of RedStar WhiteStar but never played it.
Yeah computers are nice, and do a lot of the minial work with a small footprint..

If your talking about Robert the dev who designed these SC-PACIFIC scenarios, him and I discussing these very games posted on this thread in the SC-PACIFIC Discord atm.gamer78 wrote: Mon Jul 14, 2025 11:05 pm It is safer than Witcher 3 gaming or Fantasy General 2 is free with Slitherine (25th anniversary) enviroment politically about designing Cold War... He loves them them too having played them back when.
Of course there might be something lost in translation here from what I am reading.
You never know what they maybe planning next...so these can be seeds....
Also, 'don't plant missiles in Erzurum?,' Like what the USA did that caused the Cuban Missile Crisis? Yeah not a good idea to do that.
