Hello, after a PC crash the repairman loaded up windows on my pc
since this day i got the message "fatal error 999"
What should i do?

At what point in your computer use do you get that error? Boot up? Starting the game? More info including a copy of your string of switches in the shortcut is needed.

If i starting the game i cant update and cant start the game. What can i do?

Widukind59, you may have tried to update another update instead of the base game.
All you need do is download and install the base (2009) game and then download and install ONE update. Currently you can use versions 1126a or 1129b (virtually identical and last official updates) or the new version 1128 which is still in Beta testing but due to be released soon (soon being a postpone-able date).
EDIT: PS - I just noticed the background to you post appears to be the MENU from the initial 2009 game installation. That menu program (autorun.exe) DOES NOT WORK. Unfortunately installing the base game puts a shortcut on your desktop but that shortcut points to the useless menu program. Here's what to do:
1. delete that shortcut that points to the Autorun.exe (right click on the icon to see its properties).
2. go to the place where the game is installed (mine is at C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition) and find the game program War in the Pacific Admiral Edition. Right click on it and choose "create shortcut". That will put a correct shortcut in that set of files.
3 Drag the shortcut to your desktop or Copy it to your clipboard and Paste it on your Desktop.
4. The base game is ready to run, so download and install the update patch of your choice, then use the shortcut to start the game (the same shortcut will work because the name of the .exe file stays the same).
