Groundpounders scenario

Post by kvob »

I'm playing through the Groundpounders scenario from the Silent Service DLC. I have my two subs in position (and have had pop ups confiriming this) and now I'm supposed to request recce data for the planned TLAM strike. I thought that I'd seen instructions for this telling me to use the 'special actions' part of the drop down menu but now I can't find where (and if) I read that. I'm at periscope depth, which i would presume is where the subs would need to be for comms.

I am now at a complete loss as to what to do to contact SOCOM and DIA. I have gone through everything I can think of but nothing. If I select special actions from the menu, the window is blank.

Any help or even just pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

When both submarines are on the designated launch points use the Special Action to receive the data. Then fire at the targets and exfill

I'm beginning to wonder if it's a bug.
This is the message window telling me the subs are in position.

Run the scenario several times and only once the option to run the special action appeared.

The rest of the tries the data were received automatically at 23:00 Zulu time.

The special action appears only if at least one of the subs arrive to the firing point after 23:00 Zulu.

Yes. That's roughly what I have found. I never once got the special actions option but my subs always reached the firing point before 2300 so that's probably why. I've run it three times now and once it reaches 2300 Zulu, I automatically get a window telling me I've received the recce data. If only I'd waited a little longer before posting...

Thanks for the help in solving this:)

I'm running this on steam and the special action is there from second 1

If both subs reach the launch zone before 2300Z, the SA is there:

If no sub has reached launch zone before 2300Z, the SA is still there so I'm not sure what's happening or if I understanding the issue correctly

Not here B1676 or B1706.

The scenario in steam must be different.

I am using the one included with the beta patch.

Well, the time is 00, but after starting the scenario the special action is not there.

If at least one of the subs is not on station, the special action is activated. If both arrive by 2300Z the recon data is transmitted automatically.

This is how the scenario was always supposed to work - at least based on the scripting - regardless of what the briefing says. I did make some tweaks with the TSS rework to make it more reliable but didn't change the original intent. However, the automatic transmission of the recon data and lack of special action seems to be causing a lot confusion. I've seen a few posts about it now. I think I'm going to rework the scenario to remove the automatic transmission entirely. What I'm thinking is that at 2300Z a check is done to verify your subs are within 5nm of their launch positions - points will be removed if they are not (as it is done now). But instead of the recon data being automatically transmitted at that time, the special action will be activated. The check to verify your subs have reached their launch positions will also be repeated when the action is run so it can't be cheated.

I'd prefer to just update the briefing, unfortunately the TSS briefings are all image files and editable files were not retained.

Internally we've also been testing some tweaks to scoring. The scoring was weird. The briefing says your target is the Su-24s, but you got points for destroying any of the air base facilities. Going specifically after the Su-24s was kind of pointless. What I've done is removed scoring for everything but the Su-24s and a few specific facilities. Pass/mission complete score is only 100 points so it actually doesn't change much. The Su-24s will also be placed at the correct positions, rather then spread around everywhere including at the civilian airport terminal aircraft parking.

Thanks for the explanation.

The briefings are beautiful, it would be a pity that they were lost.

Who designed them?

A former member of the dev team made TSS.

I've tried using Photoshop, including its built in AI prompts, to edit them but I haven't been able to get a satisfactory result. Then again, it's not really my area and I'm not very good at it.

While editing the briefing would be preferable, the easiest way is to just edit the scenario to match the briefing as it currently is.
