Question about to import-export data maps

Post by welk »

Is it possible (or not ?) to export data of the 1870 map ( SC-ACW) to SC War in Europe ? (I bought this day SC ACW)

And if yes, how to proceed exactly, please (I just tried exported/imported map datas, nothing else, but it did not work : I received a "error segmentation violation" message).

My goal would be to have in SC War in Europe the large 1870 France map of SC ACW, because it is more larger than the one SC WIE has.

Yes, I think it should be possible, instructions start on page 213 of the ACW Manual and you will have to export and import solely the map relevant data, i.e. not the country settings, unit deployments, research etc.

Ok, I tried that, but I received same error message

Here is what In did exactly, step by step :
1/ I opened the ACW Editor and I export only hex pf the 1870 map (checked only the first box)
Then :
2/ I closed the ACW editor and I opened the SC WIE editor
3/ I created a new campaign and gave it the correct dimensions (126,108). All hex were sea on this map (new map).
4/ Then, I selected import data and in the windows that opened, I choose only "hex" (checked the first box)
5/ And I received message crash (violation segmentation)

Too bad, because this very large map matches exactly with a project I plane in the futur

Ah, yes, there are some differences between ACW and the other games in terms of the land/sea hexes, so this must be the reason unfortunately.

Hi welk.

I converted the ACW 1870 to WiE here.

Process:
1. Export all the ACW data
2. Create a map in WiE of the correct dimensions
3. Add an Allied and Axis capital so that the map could be saved
4. Imported all the ACW data ( the map data worked but I did the whole lot to test it)
5. The English Channel hexes were weird and so I did them manually, a quick task.

Fantastic ! Thaks a lot, to have this map in SC WIE was my dream :P

Just a little pb : when I open the 1870 campaing in SC WIE editor, I receive the following error message (see image) concerning unit.txt file

But it does not block the process : when I close the windows error, the map does display

To try to solve this pb, I have copied-past the unit.txt file of the original 1870 SC ACW in the SC WIE 1870 campaign : and it works, no more error message when I open the campaign in editor.

I am an absolute dummy : I had forgotten to place (like you) a capital in my new map before the import
I did a test following your process and the import function works perfect (except the same pb with the unit.txt file (some contents missing, and need to copy-past the original 1870 unit.txt file).

I had also th same pb like you (curious look of hex in manche) but effectively, it may be solved without any difficulty

Hope there will be no any bugs in games using this map, because it's really a superb map or dream, more larger than France north that are in SC WIE and SS WW1.

Thanks again 8-)

Glad you fixed the problem. I forgot about the names.txt.

I will try the same with the August 1914 campaign that is in SC WW1.

Will also try to import only map data, to see what happends : I have to much prudency in experimentations, I should be more audacious

EDIT : I did same transfert operation with map of the campaign "1914 March to Paris", and it's work also

Just, I noticed during numerous tests I did, these precautions to be taken :

1/ It's better to not register the new map in SC WIE before to do "import" (sometimes, if the new map is already registered, the import transfert craches)
2/ The new map in SC WIE must have at least 40 x 20 ground hex (if the new map is full sea, transfert import may crash)
3/ It's better to not be in "outsoom" view when "import" function is fired (sometimes, this views make crash)
4/ It's better to not re-use a new map already registered : each time you do an importation, it's better to build quicly a entirely new map in SC WIE (it takes a few minuts)
5/ It's better to not re-use data or new map after you experimented a "violation segmentatio crash" : in case of crash, erase the imported data and the new map that are concerned and redo all at "new"
6/It's better to follow this order :
a/Export all data of SC W ACW (or SC WW1), then close the concerned editor (alla datas have to be exported, I tested with only maps datas and experimented crashes)
b/ Open the SC WIE editor and create a new map (with same size than map to transfer), without registering it
c/ Operate the importation (select all)
d/ Then save the new map

This map/campaign will then evidently need to be adjusted for what you want to do with
