XP gathering

Fellow gamers!

Is it worth to make an effort deliberately to gain XP with units ? I noticed that the 50% German units can gain +3-4% XP in Poland with one or two attacks. Better XP units fight better - obviously.

Should I mop up all units of a minor country if possible for XP gain? Should I attack ground units with air (if I can do that without the enemy's defensive air support) to gain XP?
Should I mop up surrounded units, are they providing more XP for lower losses?

So what do you do?

I just try to use units with more experience for important battles whenever possible.
But to specifically gain experience for units, it doesn't make much sense when in 1944-45 there were active battles on all fronts. And huge losses on both sides, the experience of the units is rapidly decreasing
