But we have yet to get even the initial release, nearly a decade after it was announced..
Well, I am sure it is coming. Be patient.

I had an idea, what I love about SPWaW is the GUI, so I was thinking the bland black background on SP from shrapnel may be moddable, would it be nice to Mod SPWW2 from shrapnel ?

Here's to hoping for some news, or at least some mention from on high, in the new year of this project.

This is really the only reason I visit these forums anymore, other than nostalgia from my teenage years.

try the troop, or second front, both are good enough to fill the gap

No, they're not. I've tried both, and while they're great games, neither are Steel Panthers.

From my personal experience (and I'm almost 50 yo...) "The Troop" is the best WW2 tactical turn based game since the legendary Steel Panther. Honestly, a kind of game I would have expected from Matrix/Slitherine..."Headquarters: WW2" is also a very good and promising game .

Haven't played Steel Panthers in several years now because it's just... too old. I was so excited that work had been started on Steel Tigers and so disappointed to hear it has stopped. To me, I think that a modern rendition of Steel Panthers would be top priority for strategy wargame companies like Matrix Games/ Slitherine. Literally just what we had before but with a modern UI is all it would take to extend the greatness in to the future no need to reinvent it or anything. Well, too much to ask I guess :(

Honestly, it's been a long time since I purchased a title from Matrix. The last game I bought was Rule the Waves 3, I think. I just don't feel much into gaming lately. I have more than a hundred games in my collection between Matrix and Steam and I'm just not much interested in gaming anymore. I literally have to force myself to play just to get some relaxation. Just weird I guess.

I still play and enjoy a lot of computer games like War Thunder, but turn based wargames have fallen out of favor. Which is a shame because they traditionally were; next to Rogue-likes, my favorite genre. Panzer General 1 and 2, the Campaign Series, Steel Panthers, the original Combat Mission series were all truly amazing and over the years I have chased but not caught their dragon. Panzer Corps 2 and Order of Battle were the last wargames I enjoyed (Unity of Command was eh) and the field looks weak. Haven't played The Troop yet and that seems promising but all I really want is a remake of Steel Panthers. Of all genres of all games it is my biggest want.

Old but still awesome :)

We don't know if it stopped. We just don't know what happened with it at all. Maybe Matrix finished it and they'll be releasing it tomorrow.. maybe they really did just toss it out. Who knows. The lack of news is incredibly frustrating.

I second this so much.

I've gotten into the more modern stuff, like Gunner, Heat, PC! and a few others. But SP will always remain the king of wargames, at least between my ears :geek:

I am worried about Steel Tigers. Maybe their commercial strategy is to go full ahead toward Combat Mission 3 instead of 2D.

I wish that there could be an announcement that Steel Tigers is shelved. Then they could surprise everyone when/if it comes out.

Steel Panthers, even if I did not play it anymore, is still a wonderful game in my memory.

This is like Starflight and Starflight 2. I can't play them anymore. But, in my memory, they were AAAAAA+ games that we will never see again. Terrific graphics but a wonderful game.

Same for Steel Panthers but, if Steel Tigers is coming, I am sure you will have upgraded top AAA graphics for only the invasion of Poland. And then, a DLC, another one, another one to introduce few more units for few more campaigns.

The Combat Mission thing has done exactly the same. But, at the end, this is the same game.

And Gary is perhaps willing to go somewhere else than WW2 before a well deserved retirement.

I wouldn't mind that, because after all it would be Steel Tigers!!
