Round 9

At last, I locate one of his submarines raiding the Canadian convoy, but I’m unable to finish it off.

In northern China, he moves his upgraded and reinforced infantry corps into the gaps in my defensive line.

I switch the HQ in Yenan with my elite division and attempt an orderly retreat from Chengchow—a risky maneuver!

In southern China, he is still improving his positioning, likely preparing carrier strikes against my HQ.

Here is my build queue for the United Kingdom, France, and China. For the UK, I’m focusing on air units and HQs, which will soon be essential to support the different theatres. France is producing bombers, with HQs, infantry, anti-tank, and anti-air soon to follow. I prioritize units with the longest build times so that everything will be ready when the battles commence. For China, the focus remains on infantry and anti-air.

Round 10:

As heavy snow falls, the Chengchow army withdraws, coming under attack from the Japanese along the way.

In southern China, I pull the headquarters back, out of range of his carriers.

Round 11:

When under attack, units may retreat, which can often save you from losing them. Units with high mobility, such as motorized infantry or cavalry, are especially effective at this. However, in some situations—when you want to hold the line—this ability to withdraw can be a drawback, as when my cavalry abandoned the southern flank and repositioned safely behind Yenan.

My early mistake at Yenan could well trigger a domino effect, potentially leading to China being lost by, or even before, the midgame.

In the south, he is maneuvering behind Nanning, while I cautiously apply pressure in the forest, forcing him to risk being outflanked himself.

With this, 1939 comes to an end.

In the Atlantic, I managed to destroy one submarine and damage another.

In China, I’m still struggling and falling short of my own expectations.

Otherwise, it’s business as usual. Nothing has been decided in this game yet — even if China were to fall.

I’ll pause the updates for a while to give my opponent a chance to catch up, as he has kindly refrained from reading along so far under our gentleman’s agreement.

As always, everyone is welcome to ask questions, share remarks, or ridicule my strategic decisions and tactical play. :)

Are HQ's less fragile in TRP? I have seen them on the frontline without taking damage several times already.

Thanks for sharing the tech, that's interesting. It seems like everyone (at least on Allied side, but I assume Axis isn't different) is able to do a lot more teching. The caps are higher, but also Britain is already researching almost all techs. I guess it's partially because there are more turns, and so there's more turns of non-engagement but income seems a bit higher too.

They are much cheaper, and they have pretty strong defensive stats. This is an upgraded HQ Montgomery from another game.

The United Kingdom has the option to research nearly everything, and in doing so also helps the other Allies advance. For the Axis, as well as for the Soviet Union and China, choices usually have to be made. Research progresses more slowly. German strength lies less in research and more in its superior national morale.
