Where to get extended map and pwhexe files

Post by Don Bowen »

I've downloaded the 1128 beta and found it contained older offmap data, both art and pwhexe files. I'd like to get the new full extended map set up but can't seem to find it. I've seen chatter about new offmap bases. Any help would be appreciated.

My understanding is that the off map bases are now the same, the only changes for the game map are smaller bases to help the AI. But you can just copy the .exe and paste the .exe into your older installation. I would save the older .exe as a backup just in case.

Yes they reverted back to the stock map due to people complaining the new off map bases were too much. Andrew Brown has said when they release the final patch he will offer his own extended map files as an extra for the final patch...

Well, not so much that new off-map bases were "too much", but they were useless and additional complication.

Since they were off-map, they are better represented as abstracted.

Not sure I agree about off map bases. One or two add historical accuracy and allow task forces to load troops off map and proceed through the Panama Canal already fully loaded. Historically most of the early war reinforcement convoys did just that.

Personally I would like to see two off map bases in the US: Eastern US for the several major east coast ports; and Southern US for Houston, New Orleans, and Mobile. Caribbean ports were very useful in history but superfluous in AE.

The only possible usefulness of additional bases would be to represent actual construction sites for ships and departure ports for troops. Something only a historical accuracy fanatic (like me) would do.

If I recall correctly, in that extended map version of the 1128 beta, the US submarines built in Manitowoc, Wisconsin and the destroyer escorts built in Orange, Texas showed up in New Orleans.

For me, current (1126) map off-map bases are enough.

There are no actual use for extra bases off map. they just complicate supply/arrival/repair system.

I have spoken. 8-)

An off-map base for the Axis like "Occupied France" would ne nice for blockade-running merchant ships, raiders and U-Boats 😇
