highly recommended after playtesting

Post by gwgardner »

For anyone considering a purchase of the game, in playtesting I found it to be outstanding. The GUI is innovative and intuitive. There are depths to the combat, movement, supply, tactical and strategic support, that are not obvious right away, but they are not hidden - they are spelled out clearly in the tooltips, icons, planning and reports. Just take the time to grasp it all.

Lots of varied scenarios, and a great campaign scenario.

Is the “campaign” a series of scenarios with some unit state carried over, or is it a continuous many turn single scenario, please? Just bought but won’t get to install for a couple of days.

The Grand Campaign is 135 turns continuous.

There are also some linked scenario campaigns, related scenarios which can be completed one after the other to comprise a campaign.

And then multiple small scenarios and a tutorial scenario of 8 turns I believe.

How large is the map? Big enough for Cobra, and Falaise? To Paris?

No. The focus is the firm establishment of the Allied forces into Normandy and bocage area. The map is large enough that at a good part, perhaps the greatest part, of the Falaise situation and Cobra could be made into scenarios. Current scenarios go up to late July. Operation Goodwood is included, Cherbourg.

I'm guessing either some DLC or fan-made maps will take it beyond that. There is a scenario editor, including map-making.

I’ve played Stalingrad before. Is Overlord also worth playing from the German side?

Wait! What do you mean could be made? Do you mean there arent already scenarios of the breakout and the falaise pocket?

Ok thanks. I bought it. Does anyone know if there are smaller scenarios that play well from the German side?

The introductory/tutorial scenario is balanced. There is a lot of scope for maneuver and counter-attack in other scenarios.
