Dutch Air Units Questions

Post by Dereck »

1. If a Dutch air unit is withdrawn to return in 60 days but the Dutch East Indies are occupied when they are scheduled to return do they return somewhere else or are they permanently lost?

2. Same question is a Dutch squadron is set to re-activate and the national base is occupied.

Yes, check Aden.

Never thought about this before. From observaion in game and some test I've carried out the situation is somewhat confusing. Here's what I found so far.

When air units return to the game after being withdrawn they lose their restricted status (R) but not any [S] status. As they are also still attached to the same HQ, the [S] still affects them and, if they can, to the same base they withdrew from.

If they disband and return instead the only difference is they come back at the National base. When the unit returns it was still shown as due for withdrawal? This maybe a time thing, coming back too soon?

However if you do it volunarily then it's always the national base.

Quick test using 28b using scen #1. On the first turn I tweaked the the USA 2nd OS[S](R) based in Clark to withdraw on the 8th Dec and reutrn on the 10th. This it did, at Clark with only the [S} set. When set to disband or volunarily did it, it came back at SF.

There's also replacement. You can get replacement from three locations with enough supply and in range, its own base, the (Air) HQ base or it's command HQ base. There's a forth way where a sub unit is created is the unit is within 2 x the transfer range of either HQ. This causes problems as the ac have the same restriction placed on them as the parent and becasue they are not within transfer range and cannot get to the parent without hopping. You have to reassign othe bases to do it.

This could be fixed making the sub unit independant and prevent it fom combat mission and receiving pilots or more ac.
