Close! It was 'Kolchak: The Night Stalker'. It ran for two seasons [1974–1975] and was one of those shows that was too good so they canceled it.

I left part of the name in the jpg title, lol. That was one of my favorite shows, because I liked oddball and supernatural creatures. I'm sure I probably missed some good ones as I spent a lot of the 70's playing board games. Does anyone know other good shows like this? I mean good ones like Kolchak and the later BtVS, not goofy stuff like X Files. I'll look for them to watch now that I am elderly and feeble.
