Napoleons campain

Post by panzers »

There is a big problem with the game.
After you download and install the game, when you go to play it, it requires an instllation key, and there is no where to input the key ,therefore, not allowing you to play the game.
This is infuriating because after a very long conversation via email, it was determined that there was nothing that could be dine, so I got a refund.
They told me at that time that if I bought it again, they would not help me.
I thought, maybe I did something wrong when I installed it, so I bought again anyway, and had the same problem, so I'm out $20 now.
Beware of buying this game, because it will happen to you too.

In all the classic Ageod games, there are 2 ways to enter the serial key.

1. Using the specific tool AGEsettings.exe, that should be located in every game folder.

2. If for some reason it does not work, you may do it manually, find the file General.opt. It is located in this folder:

Code: Select all

\NCP\Settings
Open it with a text editor like notepad.

Add the serial to the line:

Code: Select all

7. Serial number (unencrypted, keep this file for you only)
Serial =
Save and close.

I'm having aggro with this too - trying to install on Windows 11 PCs.

I tried adding the serial number but it wouldn't let me save the file - even though I am the administrator.

On another PC I keep getting access violation errors.

Thank goodness I still have some older PCs that games work on.

Thanks Nikel for your comments - it is not your problem, it is Windows being a pain and older games.

In what folder did you install it under W11?

A "Programs files" folder?

Update an hour or so later !

I got NCP to work on one PC - Windows 11 pro.

I installed to C:\NapoleonsCampaigns

Used Notepad to enter the serial number - and it saved !

The version was 1.06 from a Ageod Strategy Pack 2

I updated to 1.10b with a download from Patches scrolls as linked from the Ageod website:

http://www.ageod-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=368&t=55947 Which I see is a post by you Nikel !!

Thank you - it seems to work. I ran one turn - and it seems to update the General.opt file.

Anyway, it seems to work. I owe myself and Nikel a drink.

Yes, that is the way.

"Program files" folders are controlled by Windows, and problems happen when a game like the ones from Ageod, or any other software tries to modify their content.

In Ageod games log files are created while playing, or you cannot modify the settings.

The solution is to install in another folder, like insides a /Games folder, or what you did, directly in the root.

I've pushed my luck too far and tried to install World War One Gold from the same strategy pack.

Failed.

That is not an Ageod, AGE engine game.

Which is the error in this case?

Hi Nikel,
I think I will settle for having NCP working on one of the PCs. I can't get it to work on the others despite trying to do exactly the same file choices and sequence.
WW1 and WW1G I can't get working on any of them. It may be something to do with trying to install DivX/DirectX.
I'm too tired to continue - thanks again for your interest and help.

Hi Nikel,

I got it working !!! NCP AACW WIA - and now World War One Gold

The WW1 tip came from an old thread - just copy the entire directory from the old pc where it was working.

I'm too exhausted to play.
