Logistics

Post by Dereck »

I don't know how anybody else keep track of their logistics. I did have a notepad document of my routes and a spreadsheet where I tried to keep track of where my merchant shipping was and in what number but it soon became unmanageable.

I combined everything into one spreadsheet and I think it tells me everything I need: how many ships are in use, how many total I need, how many I'm missing from my convoys and then how many I have available in ports.

As RangerJoe said, you can use Tracker.

With time, you will develop routines and better hunches,

Take Abadan for example. You dump most of your British TKs there. You just need to haul fuel from Abadan to India. Drop fuel at Bombay and Karachi , and it will be distributed by the code in India automatically. Any surplus will gather in Bombay (it has best af+port combo in India). From Bombay, you need to haul some fuelfor Colombo, since Ceylon is an island.

You can leave 5500-6500 capacity TKs in Ceylon for moving fuel to small islands since the TKs can dock in small ports level 1(?)-3.

I have Tracker but it doesn't give me this information. It doesn't tell me, like my spreadsheet does, that I need 90 TKs to get my convoys up to 100% but that I only have 83 currently available sitting in ports.

I'm using a combination of tracker and my spreadsheet. I was just curious how other people handled things.

I just use my brain and the option to give TFs a name that indicates its purpose. I try to form convoys of ships of the same class or at least close in speed and size. Tailored to the port sizes, using a hub-and-spoke system with large ships for long distance CS runs behind the front and smaller ships for shorter CS hauls and to supply the front bases. It takes a few weeks to shunt the various ships around before everything falls into place. The limiting factor at the begining is the lack of ASW escorts.

So is Tracker still actively updated or not? I haven't messed around with it in quite a while so was wondering.

Exactly. I don't have a need to be super organised with shipping since escorts are a real bottleneck. Some xAKs/xAPs/TKs will be idle because no suitable escorts are available.

Instead of having idle cargo vessels, I use them to move supplies to Cape Town and Panama. Off map movements need no escorts especially since there are no enemy combat vessels such as submarines nor surface raiders. ;)

Whole damn game is about logistics.

You'll get it after few tries.
