SCR-270 Radar Won't Unload

Post by Dereck »

Trying to unload a base force on Penryhn Island and everything has unloaded but the radar which I got a message saying it can't.

I think I know what I might have done wrong (been away from this game for too long and making stupid mistakes): Even though I used AK and AP ships I put them in a regular transport TF instead of an Amphibious TF.

So I have two questions:
1. Penryhn is currently only a level 1 port. Would it unload if/when it gets to Level 2? or,
2. Could I unload the base group fragment (without losing it) and reform the TF as an amphibious task force, reload the fragment and then unload it on Penryhn?

I think you have to be able to dock the TF to unload objects above a certain size, iirc.

or, it the TF is too big to dock, move the ship into its own TF and dock it

The port size is too small. It can be helped with naval support but without it, you need a size 2 port. That written, you can unload it elsewhere and then reload it in an amphibious TF, then move that TF back and try unloading it that way.

This is a common problem that a lot of players have which is a good idea to read a lot of AARs, especially from newer players who may receive help from more experienced players.

Another one is Motorized Support, which is also hideously difficult to unload.

Naval support or special ships like LST or combat landing ships like APA/AKA are also good.

Unfortunately they start to come out in 1943 for Allies.

Well, SCR-270 is huge, so cannot really be unloaded with lifeboats and few stevedores.

The problem is it's size. There are various limits in place that reflect a ports load/unloading ability. There are mainly based on port size and, TF type and the ability to dock individual ships.

Normally it's just a matter of using a transport TF with ships small enough to dock that rectifies the problem but there' another problem that I forgot, never appreciated or never knew.

It all boils around this limits in place for unloading individual devices not just a ships daily unload rate. See page 140 new manual for the details but the problem occurs if a device is larger than a ships unload rate.

Some Marine general: "We have 10,000 Marines on this island and we can't unload one gosh-darned radar set? Are we not men?"

I think someone tested it and 10 naval support will unload radar sets. Use a PBY squadron to fly in some naval support from one of those lettered units with 30 naval support and 10 aviation support (or fly in shore parties if you're playing a mod). Barring that, you could send the xAK (or whatever ship) that's carrying the set into harm's way by itself. For instance, it could take a one-way sightseeing trip to Truk. After it sinks, supply will create a new radar set for the base force. I've done that and it works.

EDIT: If it's in transport mode, I'm not sure. Let us know if the naval support works in that case.
