MWiF in new machines with Win11?

Post by juntoalmar »

Hi,
I have an old Microsoft Surface 7 which is very convenient for playing MWiF on the go. It's going pretty slow at the moment and I'm considering updating it.

I was wondering if anyone has tried running MWiF in the computers using the new SnapdragonFootnote processors and Windows 11? I guess they are ARM-based (instead of Intel) and perhaps not compatible with Intel-based programs?

Thanks in advance

I've been running MWIF for two years in Windows 11 with no problems with the exception that I have to run it in Admin mode to save and access game files between runs and share with other applications like WordPad 2 and MAGIC.

My rig uses Intel processors. Regarding other processors I'm not sure, don't understand, how that would affect running MWIF or any other Windows applications under Windows 11?

Or maybe I'm missing, not understanding, what you're asking all together?

I am not as knowledgeable in architectures.

What I can tell you is that I am running the game after upgrading to W11 and the performance is the same. I use an I5 intel.

It runs in my laptop as well, W11, cant recall the specs..

As far as I know, you cannot run Intel-based software on an ARM-based OS & hardware. If so, MWiF wouldn't work on a laptop using an ARM architecture unless:
a) there is an ARM-version of MWiF (unlikely)
b) Windows uses an emulation to run Intel-based software.

But:
1) I don't know if they have such emulation on ARM-Win11
2) Programs on emulation sometimes work, sometimes don't
3) If they run, they generally do slower

So I wanted to know if anyone had already tried succesfully.

Ok. I haven't a clue. Sorry for the noise.

I actually haven't a clue what most of the above means... but here's what I do:
- I have a Mac with an M1 chip
- I run Parallels and emulate Windows 11 (at least I think that's what happens)
- the game works just fine

cheers
