Do i need both transport ships and landing ships to invade?

cant see yet if i need both landing ships and transport ships?

ive transported armies already. but when an army is in a transport it says i need 20 landing ships. Only have 10. so i assume i cant just use landing ships without first placing army in a transport?

Transports move units. This commodity is only in use until the unit disembarks
Landing craft are expended to invade hexes. They can also be used to pick up units on a coast.

yes but how do i use the landing ships. It seems that when my army is on transports, i then have option to use landing ships? so i am asking can i invade only using landing craft and how is this done please as it isnt clear yet after reading the manual. what it really needs is clear steps and pictures. i really want to invade syria to then move to secure iraq. as i really need oil for italy. which is struggling with oil and cant move much of anything.

You need both.

First you have to put the troops on transports then if you want to land them from the sea then you need landing ships, too.

Load the unit > "D" or toggle the show invasion hexes button which is just below the oil drop > move the hex you want to invade > right click to invade (if I remember correctly)
