War In Spain !

War in Spain 1936-39 is the first in a new wargame series, using a new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific - Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems. A hyper detailed OOB reaches down to battalion and company level. A beautiful, hand drawn, 5 nautical mile per hex map massively increases player immersion.

Are any planned before release?
I'm not sure. I sure hope so. M/S Marketing does decide that. I know we did videos. Tutorials and others. But I'm not exactly sure they will be released to public prior to the game release.

Well, no...

There are relatively few tanks. Even though the Republicans will assemble 6 tank brigades...
(5xT-26 and 1X BT-5)
By the standards of that time, it is not few...
And there are very few effective AT weapons...

And in the air? 6 Russian squadrons (5xI-16) will make the Italians and Germans (who fly He-51) literally hell and massacre in the first period...

This looks like it will be a very interesting game. Will the logistics modeling, functionality, interface etc... be based on WiTP AE or WiTE2? I never played WiTP AE and have struggled to understand logistics in WiTE2. So, I was wondering if maybe watching some YouTube videos on the subject would help to get a head start on understanding logistics in WIS.

I guess the answer is: Based on neither of the 2. But looking closer to WITP AE as I played this one and designed the game to look like it.
But unlike WITP AE our logistics works by "real" devices on map. Railroad and LCU devices move stuff thru the hexes. Losses in devices can cripple the logistics. Terrain and a path free of enemy influence are important.
So it's completely different in how it works.
I'll see to ask if a video on the logistics can be done.
But while the math is complex, it's use in game is fairly simple. Each land unit does tell how much is expected to be moved. And if you start the turn with a shortage of supplies in a unit, you know you spent more than the logistics could replace during the day.
If a base has a shortage it is a good idea to place a logistics unit there. These units move stuff between bases and also help to transport stuff to units in the field around the base.

Thanks for the info Alessandro. It would be very helpful to see a video of logistics and maybe some screenshots. Any system that is easier to understand, and more intuitive than the previous games will be an outstanding improvement.

What do you mean by LCU and devices?

Thanks!

LCU is the abbreviation for Land Combat Unit. Divisions, Brigades, Battalions, etc.
Devices is what the LCU do consist of. Infantry squads, guns of all kind, trucks, horse carts, etc.
Some of these devices serve a logistics purpose. Their cargo capacity is used by the unit to fetch items such as supplies, ammo, or fuel from a nearby base during the logistics phase.
Units in the same hex work together to supply all units in that hex.

Ok, that sounds good. So if we have a unit on a hex that is low on supplies, and another unit moves into the hex with a large amount of supplies, the first unit will see their supply level increase. For each unit will we be able to see on the counter or unit card the number of carts, horses, trucks etc..? What is the smallest unit that will be modeled in the game?

You can see the exact number of each device in any given unit. And the logistics ability of each unit is told as summary of the logistics devices. Normally there is no need to dig deep into the details of each unit for logistics.
Our smallest units in WIS are Battalions, normally. But the Spanish civil war was a very chaotic war, especially at the beginning.
Many Milita units were formed and then disbanded again when integrated into the regular military. These Militia do not tend stick to established unit sizes.

The usual size is indeed a battalion. But there are many smaller units in the game. Especially in the area of supporting weapons (AA, AT, Eng etc.)
It should be added that both sides used (in the late part of the war rather the Republicans) relatively small numbers of weapons. If we compare this with the TOE WW2 of common European armies.
For example, Gruppo de artillery (level battalions) often contained, for example, 6 heavy guns, compared to about 9-12 in European armies. Or an armored company had only 5 armored cars or tanks.
etc.

Will any aspects of the game have more automation as an option?
For example in GGWE2 the Air war can be controlled by the AI.

Whilst I enjoy having control of all the minutia sometimes in WITPAE it can be a little daunting, especially for new players.

Yes. You can set air units to partial or full AI control.
TF can be set to repeat assigned transport tasks.
You can automate pilot management, replace ship leaders by automatic ( can be useful as in this game leaders can be promoted and improve skills )
Production and industry expansion can also be delegated to AI control, yet this does not matter much in stock WIS scenarios as Spain does not have a large industrial sector and thus we modeled a simple resource input/output and production system. Modding can, however, create very detailed production and economy systems and then it might be of more use even in WIS.
