[LOGGED] Drone Altitude Control

Post by YuriyAntropov »

In my scenario, the Shahed-136 won't let me change its altitude, even though the database says "Weapon Altitude Control Possible."
I tested this on other drones with "Weapon Altitude Control Possible," and the result is the same.
The "Throttle and altitude settings" window has altitude settings (unlike other weapons, where "Weapon Altitude Control Possible" isn't listed in the database, the altitude settings in the "Throttle and altitude settings" window are grayed out, meaning they can't be changed). However, when I change these settings, nothing happens, and the altitude value doesn't change. This doesn't matter whether I check the "Manual override" box; the drone still flies at ~60m ASL (200ft ASL) and a stable 18.3m AGL (~60ft).
Speed, in turn, has two settings: 65kt and 108kt, and when you select these settings in the same window, the drone actually changes its speed.
Could it be that no weapon in this game (that isn't a plane or helicopter) has an altitude-changing function? And even the MALD doesn't have such a function? That's odd, I'm probably missing something...

Thanks in advance!

It would probably be better to post this in Tech Support with a save.

And this is sarcasm if you don't have a sarcasm detector...

"Could it be that no weapon in this game (that isn't a plane or helicopter) has an altitude-changing function?"

Yes. I'm sure thats a possibility that for 12 years thousands of players never noticed that.

Seriously. You have described a fairly vague issue that could be because of dozens of reasons. From a simple db error, misreading the db parameters by the user, mission-related, drone autonomy, etc.

I can't find the Shahed-136 in the game.

Nevermind. Found it under weapon as a loitering munition.

edit: Just added a Shahed-136 facility to a scenario and was able to launch with a plotted course and set altitude/speed at every waypoint. But only after launch. Its low max altitude means that the high altitude settings on the F2 dialog are grayed out.

I've created a new thread in the "Technical Support" section about this issue.
I'm copying the saved file here:

Thanks!

The problem with the inability to change the height was resolved in the next update that came after the first publication of this post in Tech Support*

I'd like to add another issue related to drone flight altitude to this thread.

If you launch the Shahed-136 with Shift+F1 and set a route (plot course), OR if you launch it in a straight line with F1 and then add waypoints, then if you try to change the drone's altitude (F2), selecting "altitude presets" doesn't change the drone's altitude (although it will say: desired altitude "what you selected"). Altitude changes only work if you enter the altitude in the "manual" field and then press Enter.

However, there's a more serious issue. The altitude resets to automatic (60 ft for the Shahed) after passing EVERY waypoint.
I checked that I'm changing the Unit's altitude in the F2 window, not waypoints #1 or #2.
I understand that as a regular user, I can't change the default (automatic) flight altitude parameters. However, when I do this via F2, I want the drone to maintain this altitude throughout the entire flight, across ALL waypoints. And if I want to change the altitude individually for each waypoint, I'll do so via "Change Waypoint #x Altitude/Speed."
It's very inconvenient when I have to enter the altitude in the "Set Manually" field after each waypoint, then wait for the next waypoint, and do it all over again. And during this interim moment, air defense might detect it, or, if I prefer, NOT detect it (surely I can simulate scenarios where the drones don't fly at 60 feet?)...

My current version of the game: v1.10 Beta - Build 1892.
I can't say for sure, but I think these issues appeared in the same update that fixed the issues mentioned in the title of this thread. And up until the current version.
