Northern Fury 9 - Hold the Line (design feedback)

Post by Knightpawn »

I tried to play this scenario that looked amazing at the beginning BUT I quicky started to see my score increasing without that being a result of my kills. I realised that Russian planes were just ditching like flies because of congestion in refueling missions north of Iceland. I also opened the editor at the start and switched sides to WP and noticed that a large number of planes were already in the air just out their bases. As if the start was not the original start but some point in time down the road.

Anyway, the scenario is not fun as NATO (despite the anticipation for a huge fun factor) because all one has to do is wait for the Russian planes and bomber to fall down. I believe it needs a significant overhaul.

This kind of thing happens a LOT in the Fury scenarios (and not much anywhere else). In Out on a Limb, it turned a serious defeat into a 'victory'. I've mentioned it to Bart several times but we are no nearer to a solution.

In Pacific Fury 6, something happened to me early on which might provide a clue. I moved a large number of Indonesian fighters to a forward base, only to find that (contrary to the Briefing) there wasn't enough room for them all (despite the base only being 65% full). Thankfully, I noticed in time and there was another base to divert the excess aircraft to, which saved them all. Possibly the base capacity calculations are to blame and WP aircraft keep returning to base, only to find there is no room and no guardian angel (not that they believe in such things) to rescue them?.

In some cases, like the one you've encountered, it might also have to do with the dodgy in-flight refuelling mechanics, which are a constant pain.

Given our recent discussions with the devs, it might be best if you were to raise any bug reports...

I am not sure if this a bug or an ambitious scenario design choice gone wrong (considering the known game limitations in handling refueling)
